I think it depends on the province. But it does look like the rules for quarantine have gotten a lot more strict the past day or so, they're not giving people the option to quarantine at home as often anymore, just at the government deathtrap hotels.

It's less depressing around me at least because people are going out more and getting more confident. Not sure if they have any reason to be less afraid but whatever, it is what it is.

That baffled me for a while when I first moved to Korea. I was asking people when was bin night and where I should put out my rubbish. And I eventually figured it out, so long as it's in a garbage bag, in one of the little piles of garbage bags near lamp posts, the bin men will come and get it eventually.

In Japan, it was much different, where we had several different bin nights for several different kinds of rubbish.

In a garbage bag?! Wow, you have some fancy dumping sites!

I'm currently on Jeju which has some crazy sorting system. They've got all kinds of containers and compactors and bins.

One time while I was in Japan, I committed the heinous crime of putting out the blue trash, but it was a Tuesday! 😈😈😈

As noted previously, government numbers continue to be almost certainly fake.
In areas with decent wealth/infrastructure and low initial exposure, things bare becoming more normal.
People have been back at most sort of work for a few weeks, although schools and almost all restaurants remain closed. Delivery services are fully up again though. Delivery points/boxes rather than direct handovers.

Travel is possible, but almost all locations of town status or above effectively require 14-day isolation, either in your home (if you have a home there) or in a quarantine hotel (if you don't), so obviously few people are traveling.
This is initially enforced by community guards, but people who are caught violating that either have a security camera put outside their door, or shipped off to a quarantine hotel. No idea what decides between these dates.

There was an early period where no quarantine was required for people coming in from overseas, but that's over now.

Edit: there was a super-entertaining video clip from a week or two ago of a very high level government official doing a publicity visit to some badly affected fully quarantined community, talking loudly (loudspeakers, reporters) about how everyone is very well taken care of. Then, echoing from somewhere in the apartment blocks, a floaty voice saying stuff like "That is all lies! The food they bring us is awful! I need vegetables and meat!"

The weird thing is, that video and posts about it weren't taken down, and... ???
I guess the government is afraid enough of people's anger at a time like this that they didn't dare? Maybe? It's so weird I have no idea.
Anyway, they put out their own stories disputing this and arguing the government's side in the media, just like a grown-up country, and it was... strange and good to see?
Won't last. Or possibly ever happen again.

Shanghai is p ok rn. Most of the people in my apt complex aren't wearing masks anymore.

The effort has been on people coming in rather than people already here. Today they updated the high-risk, must quarantine list to include people who had been to France, Spain, Germany and the US. Everyone who came in in the week or so or so is wondering if we'll be whisked away to a quarantine hotel or just left at home lol.

Same at the apartment complex I'm at in Seoul. General waste goes in bags, but all the other stuff has to be separated out into separate bins (glass/plastic/polystyrene/paper/tin cans/etc).

So far, despite all the covid19 worry, really enjoying the visit. Lot of places are less busy than usual, and it's weird seeing Myeongdong almost deserted. Downside is my flights have been cancelled and re-routed twice now, which is kind've annoying, but I might qualify for compensation because of it, paying for the return visit when the wedding I was supposed to be here for now is rescheduled.

The original reddit post about China's infection numbers fitting a quadratic model is this one

Here's a link to that graph showing how Japan's numbers are off compared to everyone else

Some reverse image searching turned up this guy as the source of that graph. He's an Italian physicist, and I think he's the one making these. Here's one with updated info from 3/10

I'm not sure where this guy is getting this data. Also, he retweets a lot of alt-right stuff and rails against political correctness, so... yeah. :yikes:

Wondering how the CCP is balancing the news in-country given that they're saying that China is weathering the Virus better than the US, but the US is also somehow responsible for it. You'd think if the US was introducing a biological weapon into China they would have closed the border much earlier.

I have seen some limited speculation in medical journals that chloroquine, another anti-malarial, may have antiviral effects. I suppose this isn’t too surprising, since malaria does have an intracellular phase in its life cycle, and viruses are equally obligate intracellular parasites. Of course, the mechanism of cell entry is likely different, using different receptors and the like, but it’s not automatically nuts. Just very, VERY speculative. I wouldn’t even consider it outside of an ICU, and then I’d be pushing for remdesivir as a better guess, but it’s not complete garbage. Just 75% garbage.

It's currently being studied as a possible COVID-19 treatment but the science is still being done and it's definitely irresponsible for a rando on the internet to be telling people to take it. Even if it does end up working, it needs to be rationed for severe cases (and of course people who get malaria), and the decision as to who to give it to needs to be left to medical specialists.

I know one single Chinese guy irl who instantly latched onto this 'American army brought it over' thing. This isn't his first conspiracy theory, he's an absolute nut like a Chinese pro-party Alex Jones. I kinda hate him, but I cant look away he's so nuts. Other than him my experience with the people close to me that I'd ever talk about this stuff with has been the same as yours.

What Ive noticed about the domestic narrative has been this shift to 'China is going to save the world we are the most prepared only we can help every other country we're so kind we're even sending our doctors to other countries.' which is, whatever.

If the party keeps pushing insane aggressive poo poo in their foreign facing media and China as the worlds savior in their domestic media they can pretty easily make it look like the world is bullying China even when they do something good if other countries give them poo poo for it. You know, like Chinese media does all the time. I honestly think they know exactly how the conspiracy theory type message will be received outside China and how nuts it is, but that that's the point.

Let's say Army ISA snuck something into China past the panopticon. Why would you open up a bioweapon in Wuhan and not something far less chaotic in Beijing or Shanghai?

I know the communist party is amplifying this one, but I feel like all conspiracy theories are somehow rooted in the terror of governments being at times fallible and inept instead of gods. If some shadowy cabal or powerful enemy planned the awful disaster that means someone is in control, and it's somehow less scary than trillions of dollars being wiped out by one guy frying pangolin in bat sauce.

easy, the unnamed country hid the virus inside of a bat. the intended proliferation was using it as a rabies-style vector but someone caught and ate it instead

If you're going to release a bioweapon, you'd want one that's a bit more effective than a 0.2% fatality rate among people who are not already frail or compromised in some way.
