When a tree grows, it is soft and pliable. But when it's dry and hard, it dies.

Hardness and strength are death's companions. Flexibility and softness are the embodiment of life.

That which has become hard shall not triumph.

There is also a rumored 2.7eb/7 speed manual option for the big boy.

The new 7 speed manual is a Getrag unit, it's supposed to be available in 5, 6 and 7 speed variants and is purported to be "hybrid compatible".

What sites are good now for car news and original content? Agree that the Jalopnik crew is lacking compared to past rosters. The Drive has such a messy front page. I like the R&T team but I already subscribe to the magazine for the long-form stuff and their blog-style content is basically the same as Jalopnik without the comments section so people can dunk on the author.

Granted it’s been a year, but someone who is not me attended a focus group and saw the regular Bronco (pre-production 4-door model) in person. At the time they were claiming it would get both the 2.3 EB I4T as well as the 2.7EB TTV6; what transmission each would have available was unclear.

Considering how much dislike there is for the Mustang’s mantrans of recent years I wouldn’t hold out high hopes for a manual being good in these trucks, but who knows. If it gets the same 10 speed auto the Raptor has that wouldn’t be so bad.

If this is put behind the 2.7, that means it will have the right bellhousing bolt pattern to manual swap F-150s.....

The baby bronco has been on my radar for a while now as a car that might sit at an intersection of 1) not too stupidly big 2) has some visual character 3) hopefully wouldn't be an objectively bad design mechanically and structurally.

I'm impressed with the retro design, and unlike jeep I hope Ford will make a vehicle that isn't 1 star safety rated like the wrangler or has an unforgivable interior like the Renegade.

I did my driver's ed partially in a Ford Escape, and it was actually a quite decent vehicle. Have they poo poo the bed with the new versions, at least beyond the heinous exterior?

The Focus I did the rest of driver's ed in, though... what a poo poo awful fuckhole of a car on every level. I haven't been in a car I liked less until that time I rented a Sentra.

The new escape is a joke. It’s just a compact car on stilts with a FWD mono body platform.
The big bronco is still a true 4x4 body on frame SUV using the Ford ranger platform. That said, I don’t know why you’d get one as long as the explorer exists.

The Ford Bronco Sport is basically an updated Land Rover Freelander / Ford Escape on the C1 (?) platform and the big Bronco is basically a Defender / Discovery 1/2 / Range Rover Classic clone on the T6 frame.

You mean like literally every other Escape ever made? I wish they hadn't called it the Bronco Sport, but they're literally just competing with the Renegade/Cherokee.

Do you also struggle with grasping why people would buy a Wrangler over a Grand Cherokee? With the caveat that the off-road capabilities of the Explorer almost certainly don't match the GC.
