Southern New England here. Work at a casino. Looked more like 4am than 8pm on a Friday. Went home early as I had some vacation time to burn. I'm honestly not even worried about getting it really. (I know how gross people are so I already gently caress up my hands with washing and sanitizer. That, losing weight, and proper dental care including flossing have done wonders. Unless this turns into 1918 Flu type thing.) But some poo poo from Discord when I got home: my statement here I think summarizes the last few pages. This shopping crazy would be funny if this whole thing wasn't killing people and damaging finances of people who cannot really afford even a week or 2 shutdown. And from my job: (Thankfully we have protections and I have massive seniority plus a month or so take home pay as a war chest and a week of sick time. Lots of folks I work with probably don't have anything remotely close.) I have been in the casino industry since the first Clinton term. I have never seen anything like this before. poo poo, not even as a kid growing up in the 80s! Maybe some 70s poo poo I was too young to really remember like the Gas Crisis or that 1978 super blizzard but otherwise? loving hell. I have never seen this. And there was some older dude on my table today who insisted it was a Democrat plot because Trump is just the best. Wtf? Captain Rufus fucked around with this message at 08:21 on Mar 14, 2020 |

Death to air bnb and all its host imho, they've been ruining rental prices in every single bigger European city for years while making bank from it. Also the two times I actually tried using it the hosts canceled a few days before for no reason and with no repercussions, the bitches.

Airbnb has let us stay in some amazing places, but they are problematic in places with a housing crisis. But we stayed in the clocktower of St. Pancras railway station. And this little room with this view. There are Swiss cows with bells to serenade us to sleep. And a super bonus, at Christmas we can stay close enough to my MiL that she won't complain but without actually staying in her house.

There's a sign in my apartment building elevator that says apartment management is working full time remote and they're not sending maintenance crews to fix anything unless it's a real emergency This is in SF Oh yeah and northern California is basically a zombie apocalypse movie right now, zero cars on the street, zero humans everywhere, everything is closed, no cars in any parking lots Even the major tourist areas, you can throw a rock in any direction and not hit anything. Usually it's shoulder to shoulder. Will post fisherman's wharf photos soon

Meanwhile in Mexico: tonight was the first time confirmed cases jumped dramatically from 15 (accumulated over a week and change) to 26. Despite a week of daily, televised conferences about covid with doctors explaining that this is exactly what would happen as we go through the curve, the masses lost their poo poo. Didn't help that some trash-can journalist, who had never attended the conferences before, waited until the broadcast was ending to scream that nine cases had popped up in one private hospital and that the situation "was critical" - which of course forced the conference to go on longer as exasperated doctors explained that, no, the situation was not in fact critical and that kind of language is nothing short of irresponsible. Fun fact: today too, coincidentally, some Twitter tag about impeaching our president began to trend out of nowhere, way before the conference, based on a change.org petition some clown made months ago and mysteriously only got traction now. Also, coincidentally, the same doctor that confirmed those nine cases is a right-winger and the same doctor that earlier this week talked to Bloomberg about not being sure Mexico was doing enough tests. Also, super extra coincidentally, the journalist that broke the story about those nine cases happens to be the niece of Felipe Calderon, right-wing ex-president who has many ex-collaborators that are currently under investigation for stealing thousands of millions of pesos during Calderon's presidency. What a peculiar series of unfortunate events.

So simple! Look bub I get two weeks vacation this year, have tickets to go to Japan next month. Work already said they're not letting people reschedule, one of my co-workers is having a staycation next week instead of his Disney World plans. I wanted to just cancel and get the credit with Delta but it turns out you have to use the credit within a year from the date you BOOKED the flights, which was December, rather than the date the flight was for. So basically I'm hoping they cancel it on us before we have to cancel and get credit I can't use.

I want to make anyone around me have a bad day because I'm scared that our military is so blatantly falling to this opportunistic international coup by launching missiles back at Iran, while Iran digs mass graves the size of football fields for civilian deaths. immortalizing our country as narcissists protecting our holy people right in the middle of this pandemic that will go embarrassingly down in history Familiar faces like lindsey graham will boldly take defense and say this is a justifiable retaliation to an act of war, sean hannity will almost with seemingly a hint of guilt will say it will be negatively politicized "like Vietnam". We will have our vengeance for the deaths of these American soldiers and that is what will keep us safe and dignified as Americans. I'm sorry if adjacent british friends can't relate, but, how typical and psychopathic it is of our nationalistic world, all tucked in here, and how much danger we get exposed to as Americans, it really is making me lose my mind. impure flutter fucked around with this message at 10:42 on Mar 14, 2020 |

When the Netherlands jumped from 38 to 82 everyone was very nonplussed about it. Although I guess all our experts were downplaying this, we really cultivated a nationwide groupthink that this was nbd. Yesterday our prime minister was asking all younger people who were not being careful to think of others, this is dangerous for other people, why are you not taking this seriously and I was thinking motherfucker, you told them yourself it was nbd a week ago, you caused this yourself.

Even with colds, which are a type of coronavirus, I thought you couldn’t get infected with the exact same strain of cold twice. Anyway I’m basically hoping like hell that “testing positive” doesn’t actually mean being sick again, and people are just freaking out about the possibility, like when that dog tested positive for coronavirus but then it turned out that dogs can’t really get sick from it or pass it to humans.

"its just like the flu" is asinine because we're not choosing between the flu and this - covid is ON TOP of the flu. So even if we were to agree with the stupid assertion and it WASN'T 20X deadlier we'd still be looking at a 100% increase in flu-and-flu-like related deaths

People can be good or bad, no in-between. Right or left, no in-between. Flu or covid19, can't be both. This level of stupid is what ends civilizations.
