Empty Sandwich posted:I had to have pins removed from my fingers post-surgery. This was recently and post-opiod-crisis backlash, but maybe this is always how it goes: the doctor just pulled them out with a needlenose pliers, no meds. When I had my jaw wired shut and plates put in, I had three surprises. The first was that the wires were anchored to 10 completely normal Phillips head screws just sticking out of my gums. The second was the plates reconstructing my jaw were also screwed in using Phillips head screws under the skin of my gums (not really so weird, considering) and I could feel the cross shape when I touched the protrusions (that's the weird part). The third, and most relevant, was that when it came time to remove them, the doctor sat me in a chair and unscrewed them by hand with a totally normal screwdriver. It felt so unceremonious, and while it didn't hurt much there was blood, pressure, and I could feel the threads grinding against the roots of my teeth. Edit: this was in a major hospital in a large American city, despite what the image conjures Samfucius has a new favorite as of 07:53 on Mar 14, 2020 |

I wasn't forward-thinking enough to slap impact font on the post surgery video I took, unfortunately.

And yet you can't undo most electronics without some specialist screwdriver you need to get off the internet these days. But priorities, that and they want to make the procedure easy to do and undo.
