MY ANACONDA DOM'T WANT NONE UNLESS U GOT CUM SON!
I hadn't gotten a flu shot in years but the dealership I work at now offers them free of charge to all employees so I jumped at the offer. Workplace safety is more than just properly labeling chemicals and wearing personal protective equipment! :eng101:

Page snipe edit: Just before christmas last year I experienced something I had only ever seen in videos up until that point. A lube tech was doing a oil change/tire rotation/inspection and had a vehicle fall off the lift. Getting to see it happen in person was quite interesting but not something that I wish to experience again. Thankfully he had just stepped away from the vehicle and nobody was hurt, but it was still a lapse in safety and could easily have been avoided.

The employee was fired after this incident. It was unfortunate that he had to be let go the friday before Christmas and go home to his pregnant wife and kids jobless, but losing a job is much better than losing a life. Be safe out there when working around heavy machinery and equipment so you can go home to your families at the end of the day.

So what happens as far as the customer's car at this point? I'm guessing the business has insurance that takes care of the damage?

edit: also how does that happen? I'm assuming employee fuckup getting it up there if he got fired for it.

The vehicle was transported to a body shop and was repaired under the dealership's insurance and the customer was provided a loaner vehicle to compensate for his inconvenience.

Based on how the vehicle fell and the damage that was apparent, the conclusion was made that the lift arm on the front left was not fully engaged with the pinch weld on the body and was pushed out when the vehicle shifted allowing it to fall. So yes, the final conclusion was that this incident was entirely 'employee fuckup'.

I don't think you can solidly tell from an aftermath picture since the car would move so much, but given that he was fired my money's on winging the lift position and not using the right mount points on the car's frame

I didn't get a picture of it but the front left rocker panel showed where the lift arm was forced out and crumpled the body, which wouldn't happen unless the lift wasn't properly positioned on the pinch weld like it should have been.

Flu shots are usually free when you have insurance, and many pharmacies and doctors offices will give them to everyone else for free. It's one huge success in the health system here.

I've often wondered if this is the correct approach in cases like these. I would think an employee who has once dropped a car or done some other fuckup is less likely to do it again than the average employee. Just dock their pay for an appropriate amount. Or only hire people who have been fired because of a fuckup, they are probably cheaper and they can tell the other employees their personal cautionary tale.

These sort of fuckups are rare enough the Bayesian response is to take those people out of having a chance to do anything similar and your ops insurance premium will follow suit if you don't fire or promote them to management.

Not quite porn, but it does involve on screen sex. So Melvin Van Peebles was shooting his first movie, Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song. The opening sequence of the film has a sex scene and the sex wasn't simulated. Apparently Melvin didn't use a rubber, and he filed a workers comp claim due to catching VD during that scene. He used the worker's comp money to buy more film stock.

I work with a few of these guys, in a union shop so it's harder to fire people. Trust me, they just keep loving up, again and again.

Also, the "stomach flu is food poisoning" argument is remarkably dumb. I'm not going to argue about US versus European rates of food poisoning, but most "stomach flu" in the US is something like a norovirus or rotavirus.

In the US "I had the stomach flu" is what someone says when they want management to shut the gently caress up about why they took a sick day or two. Implying that you were spouting from one or both ends is a great way to shut that discussion down, and everybody here knows that a quick bout of diarrhea isn't worth going to the doctor for. It's really just a figure of speech in the States, and surprisingly effective on managers.

I haven't really seen this happen, but I'm guessing this might be a bit of a regional thing, with some places in the country having it as more of a thing than others. Most places I've worked had fairly reasonable sick leave policies, so maybe I just haven't been in environments where it's been necessary.

Yeah, both those things. There are a lot of jobs that don't let you just call in and say "I'm sick" and "Stomach Flu" is a lot more polite way to say "do you really want to pay me to spend all day in the bathroom spraying poo poo out my rear end while I puke into a bucket?"

In my experience, the people who constantly get "stomach flu" or "food poisoning" are conveniently always getting it at the exact same time, usually the day after a weekend or holiday.

It's absurd when you think about it. There have been studies of call outs for people who work a standard 5-on 2-off week, and nearly 40% of sick days are timed to give them a 3 day weekend!

The UK govt has a great idea to solve the Coronavirus problem:

Coronavirus: 'Switch from building cars to ventilators'

quote:

The government has urged manufactures such as car companies to start making ventilators to deal with the worsening coronavirus crisis.

The prime minister is due to hold a call with engineering firms on Monday. But Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the BBC that manufacturers should consider switching some production to the production of ventilators. He acknowledged it was the kind of policy normally reserved for times of war.
"We've got high quality engineering in this country," Mr Hancock told the Andrew Marr programme. "We want anybody who has the manufacturing capability to turn to the manufacture of ventilators, to do that," he said.
Ventilators are vital in the treatment of patients whose lungs have been attacked by the infection.

quote:

In a statement on Sunday, the chairman of heavy equipment manufacturer JCB, Lord Bamford, said: "We have been approached by the prime minister to see if we can help with the production of ventilators. "We have research and engineering teams actively looking at the request at the moment," he said.

quote:

Manufacturing firm, Unipart, confirmed that it was involved in the discussions and aero-engine maker Rolls-Royce said it was "keen to do whatever we can".
