Bought the PS4 version of PS:T/IWD. I haven't tried IWD yet. I mainly wanted to replay Torment since it was one of my favorite PC games and I'm now a pure console gamer.

Holy poo poo, I absolutely cannot recommend this version at all. It has some extremely nasty glitches. The worst one happens any time you try to sell items to a merchant. It corrupts all text in the game (most words are missing letters or replace letters with nonsense symbols) until you exit the game completely and reload your save. The game will then crash a few minutes afterward. This is in addition to the game's quite frequent CTD. The only way around it is to just never ever sell anything. I've stopped picking up vendor trash altogether.

poo poo this basic shows that they did absolutely no playtesting whatsoever. Beamdog has acknowledged that they've known about these issues for months and that they are quite severe. Yet they seem to be in no hurry to fix them. It's infuriating.

I had planned on purchasing the BG collection eventually, but not anymore. I can't risk this happening in those games too.

Ugh. So, playing Swashbuckler in EE BG1. Level 1 when I get to Friendly Arm, and totally wasted by that mage every time due to my 8hp. Only got Imoen in the party. She also easily gets killed here. Should I go elsewhere first and build the party up a little more before coming back? Best strategy with a small party or solo is to lure the friendly arm assassin into range of several guards and have them help. It's a rough encounter if you aren't a fighter/don't have Xzar and Montaron.

General advice - Slap on every bit of protective gear you can on your swashbuckler. They aren't great at melee until they get some levels and only really shine once you start getting equipment that allows for multiple attacks and high level abilities somewhere in BG2 or ToB. On the plus side, until then they make for a passable offtank/thief. Make sure to pick up some points in scimitar before you go too far in BG2.

Imoen has a wand of magic missiles, so open the fight by using that to disrupt the mage's spells. If you keep him from getting mirror image up the Friendly Arm guards will take him down pretty quick.

It's really obtuse if you've never done it but the dwarf , if it's Kaigan (sp?), will stop complaining if you go a map or two north and run across an attacked caravan. It's in the S and slightly E of the bottom of the map. He basically says "well this is a lost cause. gently caress the job, I'm just going to hang out with you and murder people for profit".

I'm not sure if Xzar's requirement is visiting Nashkel, talking to the Naskel mayor, or making it to the mines itself.

The evil cleric can be a tough fight before maybe level 3 if you don't say the right things.

That area with the evil cleric is fun, but you maybe shouldn't go there if this is your first go at this until after Nashkel. If you do go after him specifically though, take a few reloads to figure out the 'Zhentil keep' talky line.

Kagain needs to see his job is done in the sense that he needs to see a dead caravan. Xzar (and Monty) have a timer to visit Nashkel in a week or two after recruiting them, after that it's all you.

Oh man, so I bought both the PST / IWD and the BG1/2 sets for ps4 myself. I started with Planescape, had the same experience (except my first instance was without a vendor reaction) and trudged through the entire game. I can tell you the text corruption happens whenever it wants to, sometimes upon loading a save. Also, you can’t just reload, as the issue persists as far back as the main title screen where you select which title you want to play. It also CTDs all the time, like allllll the time.

What is weird though is that midway through Curst I decided to gently caress with Icewind Dale? About 15 hours in and I have had no issues. Since beating Planescape, I went to BG and I am in chapter 4 with god knows how much time in and have had no issues whatsoever. I think this only affects PST.

So I decided on a whim to try out the Northern Tales of the Sword Coast mod. It adds some mini quests and a bunch of new areas with an overarching quest of some sort. The new content is pretty interesting but not terribly well designed. Ran into a challenging fight in one of the new areas with some orc priests and mages. It was a lot of fun trying to take them down at a relatively low level. Then I explored the rest of the map... and had to do basically the exact same fight 4 more times. It felt like two hours down the drain when I could have been dealing with content just as challenging and a lot more varied in SoD.

This mod would probably be a shorter and significantly more fun experience if it was played at the end of BG1 with the XP cap disabled. For a somewhat vanilla playthough however, it is one hell of a grind. I'll be skipping the rest of it.

The evil cleric isn't in the temple to the east. That's where the questholder lives once you kill said evil cleric.

Honestly? If you don't want to follow my advice (which is totally fine; do whatever makes you happy! You only get to play this for the first time once.), stick to the main quest (meaning go get Khalid and Jaheira, then go to Beregost, then go straight south to Nashkel, then go do the mines).

If you can beat the boss of the mines, you can go beat the evil cleric. They have basically the same skillset and accompanying minions.

Getting TO the mines might prove difficult if you talked to Dorn in the FAI.

Planescape torment starts you at level 3 which is an ENORMOUS benefit in the brutality that is 2e. A single mage or cleric with level 2 spells (horror, hold person) will absolutely wreck you and there are few ways of countering it early on.

I mean, on the bright side, only 1/4 of your total main package is unplayable! I haven’t tried Black Pits, SoD or any of the other expac poo poo though. It is dumb though since it has been documented since around release, it honestly needs fixing or more publicity.

I never really played the infinity engine stuff before this and hot drat, what a first time. Highlights being: having my very first IWD char be a poorly rolled gnome berserker that passed out unconscious after every fight, using a wand of lightning for the first time in BG in an enclosed hallway and killing half the team, finding out I can “recharge” wands (?!?) and then having Xzar use two casts of said wand during the end of chapter 2 to clear out the adds while screaming “AND THE RIVERS RUN RED” then killing himself with the reflected bolts.

These games are so good.

Also, you can use Dungeon-Be-Gone with it, if you use the scripting method of randomization, make sure the script finishes before you leave though.

Is this working 100% though? I tried it, but noted that some items were random, but some (like mencar in the athkatla inn that provokes you into a fight), still had his full plate and weapon, etc.

I really like the idea of this mod (I also want to use the item and spell revisions as well), but wasn’t sure if the randomized was working 100% or if some other mod was screwing it up for me.

Ctrl f shows no mention of Mencar so I think it wasn't supposed to be randomized, full plate and a +1 hammer doesn't seem like the kind of stuff that it was focused on.

When I was researching this glitch to figure out how to get it to stop (I was honestly concerned that it might have been a sign that my PS4 was dying), I found one guy who said that it only happened for him right after selling things to merchants. So I stopped selling things to merchants and -- sure enough -- I haven't had the issue since, whereas before I did that it was pretty constant. I'd say that's solid evidence for it being merchant-related.

And when I said that exiting the game fixed it, I meant force closing the entire app and dropping to desktop. Fortunately the glitch doesn't permanently affect saves.

That's always kind of confused me about the EEs. Beamdog must have realized that some of the voice acting in there was mediocre at best, and some of it was totally a little girl. And, I mean, it's Baldur's Gate. A lot of NPCs aren't voiced. But they had to have all of their characters voiced no matter the quality for whatever reason.

I dropped Xvar and Montaron for Minsc and I guess I'll be picking up a mage companion at the end of Minsc's quest.
