He's well known to be lazy even by rich failson standards - one big part of the reason for the mess we're in is because when he was Brussels correspondent for the Torygraph (a job they presumably gave him to get him out of their hair) he just completely fabricated stories about BARMY BRUSSELS BANS BENDY BANANAS because he couldn't be arsed doing any actual reporting, and because he enjoyed watching the rest of the press corps get angry at him. Now he's in a job that actually requires him to pay attention, stay (relatively) sober, and at least pretend to be monogamous.

I'd second the Roku route. The TV manufacturers have a terrible track record on security and firmware updates and they might randomly stop supporting a given VOD service at some point. Roku devices are cheap, support pretty much most VOD services and have about 6 years of firmware upgrades.

The NowTV one is widely available but has Sky's version of the software so not everything is on it, I think Amazon's stuff is unavailable, so be aware not all Roku are the same.

There's also Chromecast if you want to run the apps through your phone.

I support the right of people to organize as a group to collectively bargain or campaign.

I support the right of an individual to die at any time for whatever the reason of their choosing, even if I may disagree with it.

So if the elderly have organized as a group to collectively show their approval for mass elder death what else can I do but support that?

Nah, Hacker cared about something once, and the best episodes are always the ones where he ends up fighting himself. Johnson has only ever cared about himself.

Actually, typing this made me realise something that maybe has always been obvious to the more self-aware of the morality police crowd. Up until now I've always been of the opinion that the private lives of politicians are their own affair (heh) as long as it stays between consenting adults - but Johnson's inability to stay faithful to one person (and apparent cavalier disregard for using birth control) really is incredibly telling of his character. He's someone who only cares about his own base pleasures, and sees other people only in terms of how they can fulfill those pleasures, and has effectively zero control over that or at least no understanding of the consequences of it. This is *not* a good combination of traits for someone wanting to run a cake stand, let alone an entire country. And this is without even getting into the fact that the majority of his affairs have been with women who look like his mother or his sister.

Of course Theresa May's self-flagellating Puritanism isn't really a great mindset for it either. What we need is someone who's gone through a divorce, maybe had a bit of a wild youth, maybe a fling involving a radical, self-actualised partner - one who definitely doesn't look like any of their relations - and some kind of motorcycle, but has now settled down with a calm understanding of the way of the world but still retains some of those youthful fires, banked until they're needed. Pity nobody like that exists in British politics, eh?

My version is "I lived through a revolution you know" (I did actually in 2011).

I lived on a middle-class estate of blocks of flats with a few villas round the outside. There was a curfew from 3pm and people were not supposed to leave their areas. The flats were stuffed full of multi-generation families getting more and more raggidity round the edges, there was so much shouting, yelling and screaming from patently deeply frustrated people. I imagine domestic violence dramatically increased (I don't know because of the tendency to try and hide that stuff). This was essentially a month.

We were allowed to go out (very) locally so a few of us would do a daily walk to try and stay sane. If it does come to it (and I got the impression from Hancock on Marr this morning that it might start with the over 70s but it might get extended to all) and you're physically able to, I recommend that -obviously staying away from other people.

Hancock numptiness: over 70s stay home for 4 months. Marr - what if my elderly neighbour has to stay home and needs help, can I help them? Hancock - sure, as long as they're healthy and you stay 2m away. What about those needing much more personal care? Try changing an adult nappy at 2m away!

Some tory woman on the politics show that followed - we have to make sure there are plenty more supply teachers. (Does she have a clue how long it takes to get an enhanced DBS check required by schools - or will they lower standards?)

They're just flailing around clueless. And it's annoying to see comments under various posts on facebook with people sagely trotting out the 'flattening the curve' 'the right time' 'containment phase' 'delay phase' (as if the darn thing is planned phasing) and other government talking points as if they have a clue.

I'll be interested to hear how it connects to the water supply.

The ones I was looking at required a fairly simple to install connection (as in unscrew pipe from bottom of cistern, attach valve, screw back on) but there wasn't enough clearance between the bottom of the cistern and the top of the enclosure round the pipework for me to fit the fitment (which was only about an inch or so long) in without taking the bathroom apart which I'm not ready to do yet!

My latest plan is to replace my two separate bath taps with a 'bar' tap with a shower outlet and rig up my old system to that but the shower outlet needs to poke out over the bath to give clearance between tap and walls for the two-way valve (this is how I broke my electric shower by trying to force it - lasted 24 hours then shower broke and Niagra Falls bathroom experience).

My toilet has a solid copper pipe running along the wall and straight into the cistern, no stopcock or flexihose, so I'd have to get the whole toilet replaced to do that (or cut the pipe and install a valve tee). Might as well sort the issues with the shower and window while I'm doing that...

KartooshFace, you are not responding efficiently!

E/N virus rant incoming.

I normally work from home in a nice quiet corner of the Netherlands, and my company is very employee friendly (for a large American corporation), so I would have had no problem at all staying holed up for as long as it takes.

But instead I am on week 4 of 5.5 of a West End musical production period, because the magic of theatre keeps pulling me back in. So far we've just kept going, and the audiences are still coming, but nobody seems to know how the gathering ban will affect us (DCMS seems to be mumbling that theatres don't count as events), so I'm just trundling into work every day, sitting on nice dirty theatre seats and acting as though everything is normal.

We could get shut down at any moment though, which is worrying everyone because

- Will we get paid for the work we've already done?
- What about pay going forward? Everyone who works in theatre is freelance, except the venue staff

Also I don't want to get it and be stuck in this random room in my digs, where I have no food or supplies because I've been eating out 3 meals a day.

And my wife's just told me our cat's poorly and we're worried it's the final decline of his kidney disease, and if that's the case the show can get hosed, I'm on the first plane back to Amsterdam. But then I really need to be back here next week.

Sorry, just feeling very overwhelmed right now :smith:

Personally I'd get that plane back to Amsterdam now because there's gonna come a point very soon - I reckon - where you won't be able to get to Amsterdam at all. Either the Netherlands closes borders or the UK does.

30,000 UK citizens are stuck in French skiing resorts because they all arrived yesterday and then France locked down at 10pm.

There's more important things than theatre. "The show must go on" is a lie.
