London, being the center of everything in the UK seems like doing okay but that "genius" plan to establish herd immunity and pretending that everything is a-ok is psychotic. I have stocked enough stuff to get us through a month or two without going beserk. Thankfully me and my partner we love to cook and somewhat competent so we'll be making our own pita bread and I'm oven drying tomatoes to make dried garlic&tomato for later use. etc.

I got two whole chickens, we're gonna roast them and use the carcass to make chicken stock and use the leftover meat and noodles to make soup. Our game plan is to go through perishables and leave the canned/packaged stuff for later.

Yeah, none of that is going to be necessary. There's plenty of food in the UK.

People are just buying it quicker than supermarkets can re-stock it at the moment, it's as simple as that. Plenty of food in the distribution centres, it's just going to take a bit longer to get to the stores. If people stop panic buying you wouldn't know the difference.

Over the past 4 days the Netherlands went from "work from home if you live in this specific province, if you want" to a near total lockdown. Just announced all bars/restaurants/gym clubs have to close 20 minutes from now. Also all schools will close (as one of the last countries in europe).

I'm not exaggerating here, what Boris Johnson is proposing is murder. Like they are going to deliberately let it just go through the population and it's going to eviscerate people over 60 that have medical problems.

The moment I saw "Many loved ones will die" headlines on the papers and I transitioned between :thunk: -> :stare: -> :dogbutton: in nanoseconds. The idea between holding the mass gathering ban being "people will get bored and go outside during the peak" doesn't sound too convincing after what happened with Italy and Spain because NHS will fold like a wet paper towel way before it peaks anyway.

The notion that, of all people, Boris Johnson can lead UK out of this is psychotic now that it's written down.

It's more of morale thing rather than panic buying, in our case. The market chains announced that they'll be on the point supplying things and I don't expect anything grim but who knows? It's more of a measure to prevent going out unless it's necessary.

We drove to the coastline today for some air because we supposed just walking at the beach wasn't a risk. While traffic was one quarter to one half of what it usually is, there where still many people, half of them boomers, out and about. People still going to Ikea and when we where coming home the restaurants still had customers :wtc: if I knew there was a virus killing people in my age group I wouldnt be out of the house.

Whitty and that Patrick guy seem pretty switched on to me. What they are saying sounds like it make sense.

What will happen if everyone stays home? Will the virus just die out and be gone when everyone comes outside in a couple of weeks? Or is it a case of ‘when not if’ in terms of whether most of us will end up catching or not?

Love him or hate him I’d rather have BoJo saying “yes this will kill people” than that fat orange turd the US have tweeting out bullshit and lies like “someone else did it, I don’t know anything about it”.

50 thousand people used to live here. Now, it's the Mushroom Kingdom.
Staying at home only slows down the epidemic, it won't stop it. It is important tho because it gives the healthcare system enough time to treat those who actually need intensive care.

The idea is to slow it down.

Yes everyone will catch it but it won’t overwhelm the healthcare system.

The UKs idea is insane at best and borderline genocidal.

Him saying people will die is true but many people will die that shouldn’t have because the health care system was decimated.

It’s a dumb idea.

I work at a popular casino in Florida and we're staying open as of now with no plans to close
They have assured us they're working with a company that has this ionic spray that can kill viruses & bacteria within 60 seconds
We also can stay home for a week if we test positive or are caring for a dependent who tests + but then will start to use our PTO. We can "borrow" PTO & pay it back at a rate of 50/50 (earning/paying back)
It still blows my mind how many frail and elderly regulars I've seen this weekend coming in to play the slots. Some wear gloves, some masks but there seems to be no general panic here whatsoever
When I ask my coworkers if they're 'concerned' at all, most say they are more worried about the economic impact of all of the businesses closing and say it's almost a guarantee that they will get the virus or already have it already but that there is no escaping it anyways
There was a lot of drunks out with St. Patty's gear on last night but easily felt like a regular weekend overnight at the casino

Not necessarily but we are working from home (might change soon as the clients shut down operations anyway) and trying to isolate even though we don't show symptoms. We are in no way hoarding or panicking just making sure that we have enough to go around just in case we need to actually lock ourselves down in case we got it.

It's not like I'm posting this from my throne made of Heinz Canned Beans or anything but I come from a country with frequent shortages in the 80's including electricty and water and enjoys a military coup, an economic crisis and a regular political crisis every 30, 10 and 5 years respectively so maybe we bought 150 pounds worth of stuff (our monthly groceries and some more) that we would've bought in the next weeks anyway.

So I'm on the west side of the US and my pregnant sister is planning on flying out here next week from Boston. That's a bad idea right? Like I sure as hell wouldn't be going on a plane right now. A lot of people go shopping or out for food every few days. If those people stock up on a week or two in a single trip that's an awful lot of trips to a busy public place they don't need to make anymore. It also means if they do get sick they can stay home rather than shambling around the supermarket. That's 100% appropriate w/r/t social distancing and slowing down the spread of disease.
