Capital doesn't give a gently caress about creating more homeless people at a moment of crisis and this will be no exception even if it's delayed a tiny bit. ACORN has a petition going to try and get some measures in place to protect them and you all should sign it. Why do you think the government is so keen not to shut things? They know full well there is a HUGE debt bubble caused by people buying on credit and if they shut everything down that will burst. Banks will go bust and it will straight up cause another recession.

I suspect if a million people die that's going to cause some problems in the housing market and the consumer debt system.

Some 70/80 year olds - women especially - can easily pass for much younger because people haven't adjusted their mental images of what old people look like. Will it be suss laws for elders? Wor lass set off on the train to a French ski resort early yesterday morning to stay with seasonaire friends. Barely arrived before they started telling people to clear out. The roads out of the mountains are now rammed. Eurostar have been in touch about re-organising her journey back so hopefully she'll be home in the next couple of days.

Staying in your home is always going to be purely voluntary, which is why it's so ridiculous that the government is wringing it's hands over when to announce the policy even after they've already kind-of announced the policy. Also why it's so ridiculous the government is hinging so much of it's containment and delay strategy on this one advisory measure, rather than the concrete action other nations are taking like banning gatherings, halting travel, and mass screening (via temperature) of anybody out in public.

the lack of testing is i think the most grevious mistake here, it makes it impossible to know the spread of the virus which is extremely bad for us but also very loving mean to every other country since we aren't even checking if our citizens are spreading it by flying abroad what seems to be the case is in true neolib hellworld fashion we're relying on some stupid automated tech surveillance system that will inevitably fail and probably doesn't do what they're saying it does anyway OwlFancier posted:I will never log off. Joke country I think the problem is we don't have any companies that make ventilators, and every country that does has either locked them down to domestic supply only or has half the world trying to buy them. Hence why the government has gone to all the domestic manufacturers of other products and guaranteed to buy any ventilators they can make.
