Movies being available On Demand simultaneously with theaters has been a thing for a while, it just hasn't happened with many major releases. Simmons is probably just mad he can't see The Way Back without risking a theater visit and wants a Rich Person Solution to the problem.

I think there is a service that does exactly that but it's something ridiculous like $1,500 a movie.The X-man cometh posted:Roma and Marriage Story were both big sensations, but I don't know if they boosted Netflix's revenues at all. Netflix is more worried about stickiness of subscribers than they are about getting new revenue. They want 5-6 of those "Sensations" every year so people feel like they shouldn't cancel. They specifically don't measure ROI on individual projects like that (which is also why they cancel things so fast when they don't catch fire).
