I'M CONCERNED ABOUT A NUMBER OF THINGS

Charlz Guybon posted:

30 years ago maybe, what businesses actually keep money in the bank for a rainy day these days? Apple is the only notable one I can think of.

I work at an accounting firm and exactly 0% of our small business clients have a rainy day fund. Any cash they make is out and spent on some mortgage they can barely afford or a new car, a bunch don't even manage their cash flow well enough to pay their GST (Australian version of VAT) on time.

i didn't get a variety bean mix

it always confused me, since beans have different cooking times

i could create my own custom blend

Variety mixes are for soups and things that you're going to cook well past the needed bean cook time.

BBC has a good podcast, i got to listen to Sir Patrick Vallance lay out his insane plan to kill millions of people in the UK in a calm interview

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p086jbb8

also Dr. John Campbell on youtube is a really nice (retired epidemiologist professor?) been covering this every day for weeks.

put the teacher in the cope cage imo
thank u all for posting. because of this thread i went to the store 3 weeks ago to stock up on beans. i went back 10 days ago to get more beans and frozen foods. the bean aisle was picked through. i've been self-quarantined with no symptoms for 13 days. when i started the self-quarantine, several people in my life told me it was unnecessary and i was being too cautious, if not downright paranoid. some of those same people now are complaining about finding supplies limited at the grocery stores in town. our county has only had 3 confirmed cases, but i suspect there are many more here, untested.

the only thing i haven't done is tool up. i may have to take a long road trip this week to do so. i'm really hoping it's not necessary, but feeling mighty uncertain that I can predict how any of this is going to play out. but if this thread was right about plague supplies, is this thread also right about potential food shortage riots? I hope not, but I also hoped i was being over-cautious about bean hoarding.

We can only imagine how loving stupid that train gets.

Australia has had some high level chatter about that but not sure how much that is going to play out through public policy. Given how all over the shop the govt is it will probably play out by default anyway.

I represent the Philippines
Over here in the Philippines, Duterte has just promoted us to "enhanced quarantine", which includes strict home confinement and military presence to enforce. This could be argued as necessary considering the huge crowds that keep forming but it's also very very troubling given our current fascist leadership and history with martial law. :ohdear:
