Let's get clean and smart

The Prime Minister of the Netherlands addressed the public directly last night, which hasn't happened since the oil crisis in the 70s. No new rules, just told everyone to hang tough and said the Netherlands was not going on lockdown and the airport is still open. Germany and France and Spain have all shut down non-essential shops though, so I reckon that'll happen before too long. Mr Ralph is planning a trip to the big bulk store on Friday (unlike the US you have to have a tax number to get into our Costco equivalent so it hasn't been mobbed by the public) so we can stock up on liquor, but I think by Friday we will be looking at a completely different situation. Just this time last week the Prime Minister was saying "just don't shake hands lol".

Non-essential shops are still open so I am looking to buy some outdoor toys for our kid. Thank goodness we have a small yard, not everyone in the country does, and if we get locked down like they do we can at least go in our yard.

I work in a cafe in a busy shopping centre, mostly on the floor meaning I handle all sorts of horrible stuff people have had their hands and mouths on. On the one hand I'm pretty much 100% sure I'm going to catch it, on the other hand at least we're getting very few people coming in so we are going home early most days.

Gonna suck when I look at my paycheck but hey that's why I have money saved up.

I'm a salesman at a boutique store (specifically, camera store) in Australia. We also print photis on site. I spent the entire day in a silent rage as geriatric after geriatric toddled into the store to get a couple of prints done, as if nothing was out of the ordinary. I'm not worried about them spreading the virus in the store, but these people are in the super high risk category and aren't even acknowledging that there's a pandemic. There's a very good chance I won't have my job when this is all said and done, but right now all my anxieties are at the endless ignorant people (especially oldies, gently caress me) disregarding this as a real threat. I'm 100% going to lose multiple long term customers to this illness.

Most of our customers at the cafe are old fuckers! Most of our money the other day given we were completely deserted came from a table of eight old old old ladies from the UK who were hugging and using hankies and sharing food with each other. Needless to say most of the toilet paper hoarding is also being done by olds. I hope we redistribute their poo poo to aid agencies when they die from their own stupidity.

None of this ends until a vaccine is mass produced, I saw somewhere that could take 12-18 months from now.

whats been real wild to me are the people who are straight up complaining about having to watch their kids all day due to schools being shut down for the foreseeable future.

to clarify, i work in an area with a lot(a LOT) of SAHMs due to their husbands making some serious bank. Had one lady super pissed because their nanny was self-quarantining due to having a weakened immune system.

like goddamn lady, it's a 2 year old child not a nuclear reactor, they're really not that hard to take care of if you're not a lovely loving person. Feed them, love them, and let them play.

Ford declared a state of emergency in Ontario and announced the first set of COVID-19 funding, mostly expanding EI, more critical care beds and ventilators, more PPE, brining in more doctors and nurses and 25 new testing centers. Nothing mind blowing and not a lockdown, but at least some decent stuff.

I *really* wonder what Trudeau's announcement at 11.30 is going to be.
