Meanwhile, Diablo claimed another potential gap move since I didn’t get back in long before we pinned to limit up at 2:50am . Though TBF, I shouldn’t be awake right now anyway. At least I have SPY calls?

I do hear you on this, and any "bailout" should look a hell of a lot more like loans and warrants with onerous terms than "free money lol," but this really is a black swan event that hasn't happened for over 100 years and no one could have really planned for. So there might be a place for the government to lend to AAL at 9.0% or something--I don't think anyone else will right now. But if they just shovel money into the company treasury to protect the equity that's pretty dumb.

Corporations should plan for black swan events, that's what risk management is all about. It's not like they didn't have the money to set aside for this, instead of all the ridiculous stock buybacks they did with the tax cut money that was designed to do nothing but pump the stock price.

Yeah but since we know everyone that doesn’t manage their own risk is getting bailed out anyway the optimum thing to do is plan for a bailout. Boeing should absolutely get their free money from the government and use it on buybacks then ask for another handout to use on buybacks because it’s not like our leaders are suddenly going to be inflicted with moral courage.

We can and do plan for events like this. A simulation describing exactly this event was run during the handover of power from Obama to Trump. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/16/trump-inauguration-warning-scenario-pandemic-132797 I don't say this in order to turn this into C-SPAM but to make salient the fact that responsible civic leaders, the WHO, the CDC and all kinds of other bodies are specifically planning for events like this as a matter of course. It's a huge part of the point of their existence. Apparently, however, this information does not make its way into the market.

1st_Panzer_Div. posted:Despite my puts I was hoping for modest green today. You can't just turn off the economy for 8 weeks and not get a full-on recession. The focus now is figuring out how much long-term damage there will be before the economy returns to something like normal. I'm in Texas and this is acting just like a hurricane - everything is closed up, grocery stores out of everything, people panicking. Hurricane recoveries don't happen overnight and I wouldn't expect this to either.

Yeah, I didn't have enough money into puts when the huge drops happened, so I didn't make enough money to offset the negative effects of a big recession. I'm generally a pessimist so I think things can only get worse.

The problem is Trump admits hundreds of billions of interventions are required. So that cut things in half overnight. Then it dawned on people that we can't even sort out paid leave, let alone a multi-hundred billion dollar bailout and there went the rest.
