The original image for that landlord had a phone number attached, so I hope they're getting absolutely blasted now (but it's probably a phone number that goes to some poor underpaid person who does not want to deal with this poo poo). Luckily the LinkedIn of the responsible people is out there too. It was screenshotted before LinkedIn pulled th eprofile. True colors really come out to shine during these events, I hope nobody forgets the names of those who stood out to poo poo on those below them and their heads end up on spikes.

uk government is gonna put a bunch of money up to get businesses through the period where they are closed/have no demand, which right now i'm hoping is going to be contingent on them keeping staff on, but the details on what they're doing about paying staff weren't talked about because they're still working on it. i was assuming i was going to be out of a job soon like most other people but hopefully if they actually force the money to go to the right places that doesn't happen.

WaffleZombie posted:My wife and kids were facetiming with her parents a little bit ago. My father-in-law, who as recently as two days ago, said this was all hype and overblown, told my wife, "Be careful when you go out on walks, some criminals might attack you! We're only 3 days away from martial law!". He apparently still thinks the virus is no big deal, but we need to worry about everyone panicking. Which, Jesus loving Christ, how can you be so blasé about a very real threat, but so worried about something that hasn't happened, shows no signs of happening, and very likely will not happen? We knew Fox News ate his brain a looooong time ago (he was on the Rush Limbaugh train back in the early 90's), but that's just so many kinds of stupid. My 86 year old father who has respiratory issues and thinks Trump is just the greatest understands this virus is literally tailored to delete him and is taking it seriously at least with his personal health.

They're really asking for it huh When poo poo hits the fan I would rather be known as "the landlord that didn't evict anyone during a loving pandemic", or at the least not be "the landlord who, without prompting, just straight up admitted they would"

I work at a uni in the UK, we've just been told to work from home where possible & if that not possible, stay at home anyway if you live with vulnerable people & you'll be put on 'special leave'. On the bright side, they have stated they will continue to pay wages to any staff who self isolate or are actually ill.

Sounds like they're focusing on medical and basic goods. They probably have lists of surging products and have decided to prioritize around that. So... that's good? At least if you want soap and rubbing alcohol.

Yeah I get you need the money so it's probably not an option anyways, here in the UK you'd get the princely sum of £95 a week 'statutory sick pay' which I doubt would pay the rent on a room in a shared house. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7NlFWh7Sz8

"grinding to a halt" LMAO. No they're focusing on what will make the most bank in the coming weeks. Not the worst thing for the population to be able to order essentials without going to a store.... But AMZN is doing it for profit.

Everything Amazon sells and ships directly will still be sold and shipped. If they have something in stock right now, they'll still likely ship it out to you. It's the "Sold by X and fulfilled by Amazon" stuff that is getting temporarily halted.

Regarding lasting changes in society, now would be the ideal time to take all the money allocated to bail out companies and instead pay a universal income of 1000€ (or equivalent as appropriate per country) to everyone. I know not will never happen but propping up all those unstable companies nobody really needs with so much money is ridiculous.
