I quit my job two weeks ago unrelated to current events (my old boss is an rear end in a top hat) and the restaurant industry literally melted overnight. I was salaried, but most of my coworkers are hourly in a extremely high volume independently owned restaurant that's not planning on shutting down fully unless the government makes them. I negotiated my PTO getting paid out because the wording of leave accrual was non existent in my contract and had to sign a separation agreement that was boilerplate to not sue them, but all of my old coworkers are on borrowed time and probably won't receive any financial support once the to go portion of the restaurant closes.

On the topic of families, my family had a turning point this weekend. I got sick with what we think is the regular flu* (still recovering with mild cold symptoms). After I developed a fever, I called my dad about it. I didn't mean to frighten him, but it scared the crap out of him just thinking I had COVID-19. He called the rest of my immediate family to let them know while I called the nurse line for advice, and apparently he broke down a bit. But having someone in our family get sick, even if it wasn't with serious symptoms, set off alarm bells in everyone's heads. They're all staying inside now as much as possible. I'm so relieved. * Emphasis on "we think," there's no way to be 100% sure. I couldn't get tested because I'm not at risk and had no known exposures. Symptoms are/were super mild: 100-degree fever for two days, some chest/throat pressure, occasional cough, drainage, chills on day 2. But I think what's most telling re: whether it's COVID-19 is that my husband hasn't gotten sick. We're still quarantining for two weeks to be sure we don't endanger anyone else.
