I have contacted my representatives at every level to let them know that while mitigation measures might slow things down, that scaled testing and containment is the only way we will get through this without significant loss of human life and an overwhelming economic downturn.

We're going to have a real A/B comparison of isolation measures here in Europe. Germany and Belgium on full lockdown while here in the Netherlands it is quite busy in the shops. Just got back from the supermarket which was basically a regular Saturday, but busier (i thought i could get supplies before the regular Friday evening/weekend rush, but no). Full of old people who kept coming quite close to me. Lots of people out and about browsing shops because there is nothing else to do.

Up to 25k € in fines is a strong motivator to not do that. I just jope they rigorously enforce it. People need to learn that there are consequences if you are not willing to do as you are told for the greater good.

Are your courts open to do anything about It?

No amount of fines will mean anything very shortly. There's no infrastructure to enforce anything beyond judge dred extrajudicial murder and everyone's going to realize it very soon.

But I'm sure in the crippled new world that will emerge from this they will dutifully go about processing quarantine busters? Lol no it's going to be a poo poo show and they'll quietly drop the hundreds of thousands of cases.

The only consequences that matter very soon is "can this cop kill me before the mob I'm part of drags them down and pulls them limb from limb"

I didn’t think we had any wipes. If I did I would have taken some with me the last two times I went shopping. My gf got home from being out of town for work and pointed out that there’s Clorox wipes under the sink in the kitchen and every bathroom and always has been. So now I probably got the ‘roni from a shopping cart handle and it’s my own fault.

If it becomes hard to get cash, who is still going to value cash? China was burning all their cash. Why the hell do you want to hand someone a physical item and possibly spread disease?

I've been at stores when the power is out and they can't process payments, you write up IOUs and only about 10% of them get paid.

You all should have some cash.

You should also have food/drink set aside as well. I've got a few cans of powdered gatorade and powdered milk. Along with a couple of big cans of oatmeal/cereal/fruit.

And don't get stuff you don't normally use. It'd suck for this thing to blow over in a couple of months and you're stuck with food you won't eat.

All that aside, anybody been watching the stock market? PLT fluctuations pretty much shows how the virus has affected China. Giant drop off months ago, another giant drop off recently. I bought a bunch of it when it got down to 5 bucks a share simply because they make everything and are certain to come back in several months.

pixaal posted:

People are dumb. We've been conditioned our entire lives to value that paper. I imagine you'd still be able to get some use out of it even in a total collapse.

You can also say you aren't comfortable with them having your credit card numbers on paper that anyone can see. Since they can't put back what you bough and they have to get a manager over since you are trying to pay but not happy that they don't take your payment, generally they tell you to just take it.

I've had my credit card stolen from someone using one of them it was not a fun experience.

I just checked the credit card I got issued late last year and it has the raised numbers. Weird.

I guess some credit card issuers in some places went "People keep complaining that the raised numbers wear against their wallets and their other cards and hey, it's not like society's going to face an apocalyptic-level catastrophe or something so we might as well just stop using them!"
Joke's on them. :smug:
