I went out for a brief walk with my wife earlier to get some fresh air. Telford Town Park was eerily quiet, but I was still surprised at just how many groups of people are *still* congregating.

Mostly young'uns though. I guess they just lack the level of maturity needed to understand how serious this poo poo is.

This sounds similar to the way drug related death statistics include anyone with drugs or metabolites in their system at time of death, regardless of cause.
I wonder how many deaths in the next month are going to be attributed to athlete's foot.

Went out for an MTB ride today on my own to get out into the woods. Car park was packed and I saw a lot of groups of people. Some of which had at least 10 people in, all spitting and sneezing and coughing away like nothing was happening. I was just astonished.

Same here in North Wales. People have been flooding into the area for the past two weeks, and are stripping the local shops bare, and being generally obnoxious. A lot of them have decided that they're now in a safe zone and are treating it like a holiday, so good luck containing the virus The summit of Snowdon was standing room only today. The local GPs are seriously worried, as we're under-resourced for the permanent population as it is. The fact that this is pretty much THE Welshest corner of Wales throws an interesting bit of racial tension into the mix as well.

it's looking real loving bad

hopefully with the closures we will start to see a drop off, but I think we've done it at about the same point they did so quite possibly not

we have been so badly failed by the people in charge that it's incredible, just too little too late and for no good reason whatsoever apart from arrogant negligence

I mean leaving aside for a minute the absolutely astounding ineptitude that lead to them allegedly only working out on Monday that they were on course to kill 250,000+ people (and almost certainly massively on the + side), it feels like for weeks they have been saying poo poo like "oh we're two weeks behind Italy" and then doing literally nothing other than asking people to wash their hands more

what did they think was going to happen in two weeks if they didn't loving do something to stop us becoming Italy???

I really really hope they haven't left it far too late and done far too little

Italy went into lockdown on March 9th, for us that's 2 days away. Hope the government beat the curve by a whole day and do it tomorrow instead!

What am I saying, they'll do it by the end of next week when we're hitting 200 deaths per day

On the plus side the overall death rate this week is down, possibility due to people washing their hands more. Oh and the government actually doing something and winter season ending.

Howard Tayler of Schlock Mercenary has published a strip a day (3 on Sundays) since 2000. Nowhere near as complex and detailed as Gunnerkrigg though. The longest running webcomics are at this point I think longer running and more reliable and regular than the longest running newspaper comics.
