Why would they kill the Uighurs? They need them as bodies to truck from their "vocational schools" around the rest of the country to work in the factories whilst the good and valuable Han people are at home self isolating.

Seriously, I heard somewhere that some factories are doing this. Using the death-camp inmates as labour whilst their usual workers aren't allowed to leave the house.

Even assuming it was all across china 15 million people is over 1% of their population. You can just hide that, the amount of bodies alone and people needed to deal with that would tip everyone off long long before phone numbers were the lead indicator.

There were citizen journalists(:rip:) that had seen bodies stacked like wood during the peak. While they are definitely suppressing the numbers  zero new cases, like come the gently caress on, definitely agree you can't hide that many deaths over such a short period of time. However I wouldn't be surprised if the number of actual deaths are 10x reported.

Question though, how many new numbers got signed up?

Docs say maybe, maybe not, we can't test because you don't have fever and is not in hospital for it, so idk.

You can't be asymptomatic if you have symptoms... that said you are at heighten risk should you be infected. It's quite possible you are stressing your self out however you have done the right thing calling the doctor and no doubt they have given you far better advice than any of us could. Find some thing to de-stress yourself with which would be good from a mental health angle, something that is often ignored.

Stay safe. Be alert but not endlessly alarmed.

Which isn't to say that there aren't good things to report re: Winnie the Flu or any realistic projections for how effective our collective sacrifices will be, they just aren't being reported by the media or supplied by our leaders.

It's not like everyone should straight up lie like China has but now would be an excellent opportunity for governments or media outlets to consider ways to boost public morale

If you had a thought to use phone cancellations as a proxy for deaths then it would need to be compared to previous months to see if there was a noticable increase. All this tells you is that there were 14.4 million cancellations in the last few months.

The risk of jail time, a massive fine, or a huge hit to your social credit score is a big deterrent. Canada needs to make an example of some of these loving boomers and fine them 2-3x the cost of their yearly vacation to drive the point home. They need to publicize it as well.

I think the school environment, olds growing up in a dictatorship, required military service, societal homogeneity, respect for doctors, better education across the board, and a lack of conspiracy theory nutjobs goes a long way towards helping with containment.

There are too many FYGM/truthers/anti-establishment/plain old idiots in Canada and the US to pull off what they are doing (without a massive police and military presence to enforce it). The fact that people are intentionally gathering in large groups and avoiding self-quarantining proves (imo) that it's going to be around for a while.

Given what I've heard from friends and family back in the states, people in Shanghai even now are taking things a lot more seriously than the US has. Also Chinese people don't believe any of the numbers either and people seem more on edge rn with "zero new cases" than they did when the new reported cases were slow but still trickling in. The same way people rn are way more worried about people coming from Japan, where miraculously very few people have contracted the disease, than coming from Korea, where they had a massive outbreak but well-publicized measures to help stop the spread. I live near the Korea and Japan town area of Shanghai, and people are very worried about people coming back from Japan in a way they don't for Korea.

Mandating everyone get paid a full month's salary in Feb honestly probably helped a lot. I don't know if that was China-wide or just Shanghai, though.

If you were forced to quarantine you had police/cameras at your door so yeah you weren't going anywhere and yeah there were fines/etc involved. I know about 3 people who ended up in this situation and each one was cuz someone in their direct vicinity got a confirmed case.

Taiwan and Korea I know did also did fines/legal issues if you broke quarantine. It was a 1 mil NTD fine for breaking quarantine in TW. I don't think any of the three places did anything for 99% of people though, besides tell them to stay at home, though.

Most of the Chinese response was local even down to your local neighborhood council which accounted for most of the execution I saw. The worst my particular apartment got was we had special tickets to prove we lived there, though I do know friends who got the whole "can only leave once every 2 days" thing. There were actually a ton of resources on what to do if your apartment complex wouldn't let you in cuz legally they had no right to do it. Generally, the police would force them to let you in. Lots of power-hungry security guards...

They might do something if you broke a mandatory quarantine but thankfully they did not do this at all because it would discourage people, and just cause the issue you see in the US now where people don't get tested cuz they don't have insurance/money to pay for testing. I was getting text messages daily saying if you HID your illness it was a real bad thing don't do that!!! but also tons of resources for what to do if you had any symptoms, urging people to go to designated hospitals if they did and with instructions on how to get there.
