Unless the government sort out food shipments and set armed guards at every shop to prevent hoard buying, the capital is 24 hours away from ripping itself to pieces. Eh, this is the exact opposite of my experience and the experience of everyone I know - shops quiet and mostly fully stocked. Panic buying is very much a self-correcting problem as long as supply lines aren't disrupted too much.

Well, was in Tesco when the announcement went out. Place was already picked clean- barely any meat, no pasta or other staples. However I have managed to source enough ingredients for this month’s fudge orders now, after several days of hitting up every small shop in the area. So swings and roundabouts I guess.

It sure as hell is for a family whose only means of getting to and from the shops and the chemist has just got a puncture? Are builders an essential service? What if there's a storm next week and roofs need repairing? Is a telco an essential service? Of course it is, but while only a skeleton staff might be required to keep the porn flowing, that's not a stable situation. Equipment fails, software needs updating, shifts in the way people are using the internet require major reorganisation of data centres and networks, and all of this requires a lot of people who you might think aren't essential right now.

I've been off work for a couple of weeks, and the last development I heard was that we were supposed to be doing one day a week on our own in the lab, but even before this I thought that was sketchy because a) the work I need to be in the lab to do is not essential and b) often (although not always) involves dangerous chemicals, which makes working alone a bad idea even when the local a+e isn't going to be a war zone so I won't be doing that I also haven't got a laptop, so I currently can't really work from home. there's a spare pc I was supposed to be using, but it's at work and I genuinely don't know if those rules would cover going to pick it up or if it's even a good idea. I drive to work so the only contact I would need to have with any object outside my house/car is a couple of door handles and the pc (and keyboard), and there's no need for me to actually physically meet anyone in the office, so it's not very high risk in terms of infection but still I will see how it's all looking by next week

I'm sure the info will be out there in a few days, but I'm currently with my parents recuperating from surgery, and they'll be driving me back home in time for the 2nd April to get my surgical clips removed. I'm going to assume that counts as necessary for medical reasons, but I'll probably want the various letters and surgical notes as evidence in case we get pulled over by the fuzz.

Spoke to some of my colleagues, and they're all in the dark, although expecting a company email soon apparently. Who knows. Hi thread, I'm 10 pages behind, sorry to interrupt what I'd presume to be freaking out over the lockdown & pointing out that without at least a French style self-certification thing determining whether you're out for more than one walk per day will just come down to police discretion & therefore not apply if you're white and/or posh enough, but: I've been asked to draft up some general employment advice to go out to a whole loving poo poo-tonne of people, problem being I don't know much about it. Here's my draft (in picture form so I can timg it, & with the formatting probably looking a bit funny because I stripped out identifiable data): Can anyone see any mistakes here, or anything else I should cover? Should hopefully catch up with the thread by tomorrow but PMs are always appreciated. I can make a UKMT version once it's out of draft if people want it, & will be keeping it up-to-date. & before anyone says "don't give advice if you don't know much about it": nobody knows much about anything, especially in law. And especially in poo poo that is absolutely brand loving new. But, I do have an insurance policy that covers getting this poo poo wrong (insurance policy does not apply to forums posts tho so plz don't use it). Also relevant degrees & professional experience & poo poo. Thanks to whoever posted the rs21 link from which I cribbed most of the first point upthread, btw. Back to page 186 with me.
