people get more reactionary in a crisis, not less. if trump can continue going on the tv all the time and saying things people want to hear, while also deflecting blame for his many fuckups, he could cruise to victory even while killing five million old people

European social democracy arose out of the ashes of WW2. it's not as simple as crisis= reaction but reactionaries are better at taking advantage of crises.

from wiki:

quote:

Although Nazism is often seen as a reactionary movement, it did not seek a return of Germany to the pre-Weimar monarchy, but instead looked much further back to a mythic halcyon Germany which never existed. It has also been seen—as it was by the German-American scholar Franz Leopold Neumann—as the result of a crisis of capitalism which manifested as a "totalitarian monopoly capitalism". In this view Nazism is a mass movement of the middle class which was in opposition to a mass movement of workers in socialism and its extreme form, Communism

Half of CNBC's commentators are dialing in from home offices. Twitch streamers that average 50 viewers have good setups for HD broadcasts these days, its not anything too special anymore.

Does anyone remember Hurricane Sandy? Idk what pundits and poo poo think but for me that was the moment Obama clinched the election. Romney kept blathering on about whatever dumb poo poo he had to say and Obama was out there doing poo poo, shoveling M&Ms into Chris Christies maw. Coronavirus seems a lot like that. Trump gonna win.

A well done twitch stream isn’t a cell phone, and the view has far more money to spend on producing a segment than a random CNBC commentator does. Everyone’s acting like joe Biden is an idiot for not using a cell phone. It’s the dumbest thing to poo poo on him for when there’s literally everything else terrible about him that you can go after.

Obama clinched his win when Romney said his “47 percent” comment and basically blew up any support he could have gotten from the working class a month and a half before the election.

Responding to Sandy was just the cherry on top.

Biden’s a ticking time bomb on saying something as dumb as Romney or Hillary’s “deplorable” comment, his team knows it, that’s why they’re basically locking him in a closet until he needs to do some glad-handing with the press

He already did with "nothing will fundamentally change", same context as Romney - assuring rich donors that every message of reform he is adopting is a lie and that the poors aren't about to start getting the sort of handouts they are used to

That wasn't quite the same as it was during a primary against a change agent. We all know what he meant, but to the people only getting the part of the quote you wrote, it seems on brand.

Edit: Full-er quote for those that don't remember:
“I mean, we may not want to demonize anybody who has made money,” he said. “The truth of the matter is, you all, you all know, you all know in your gut what has to be done. We can disagree in the margins but the truth of the matter is it’s all within our wheelhouse and nobody has to be punished. No one’s standard of living will change, nothing would fundamentally change.”

the information is out there, but it’s not known.

I would bet that if you polled Democratic voters the majority would say Biden is more likely to pass M4A than Bernie is.

True but Trump's still gonna do it and he won't have a response

Biden has been happy to enact and vote for Trump's policies in the past and the charge that Bidens only issue with Trump is that it's Trump doing it will hurt because it's so obviously true

My grandfather is in a long slow mental decline and it’s noticeable. I’m guessing at no point is an observer “qualified” to make that assessment of Biden given he’s doing all the exact same poo poo that anyone with an aged relative is flagging as a huge red DANGER sign. Biden is worse, actually when I think about it. This is where we’d be talking about retirement homes out of fear Joe’s going to get phonescammed out of what little money he’s got.

"Biden's brain has never worked", is not as good a defense against the accusation that "Biden's brain doesn't work", as they think.
