Actually, yes. Hardy was already deep into alcohol and cocaine addiction by the time he did Nemesis, but the movie's colossal failure triggered him into an even deeper downward spiral and he contemplated suicide.

Yeah, hollywood is enormous pressure because only a tiny fraction of actors ever get a break and then if you make something that bombs then studios will write you off and just pick up another promising thing for the next project. Nemesis was Hardy's big break and it was such a critical and financial disaster that he assumed he'd never work again.

Nemesis is released in 2002, then Hardy does 6 years of crap tv and supporting film work before he lands Bronson.

At the successful resolution of the season, Data gets cloned, the crew beams up to the La Sirena, then Captain Rios fades and the rest of the ship’s interior fade away to a blank cargo ship. Data starts sparking, and says “perhaps the transfer had some problems”, collapses into a pile of positronic goo.

Finally Moriarty emerges from the shadows and says “it took getting rid of the whole galaxy of ya, but I finally got him!”

The ratings for a Star Trek show are not actually this important. Let CBS pay for it if they want. It isn't worth getting this worked up over.

Got TNG playing in the background while I work from home just to have some noise.

Couple of random observations: These model shots hold up stunningly well, especially the six footer shots.

Saw the episode yesterday where Worfs brother saves a village of people from their burning planet and Picard is furious due to the prime directive violation. Would be interesting to see how modern Picard would react to a similar situation.

You can thank ILM for shooting the everloving poo poo out of the six-footer for Encounter at Farpoint, they were using stock footage shot for Farpoint all the way to the end. Image G just really didn't have the motion-control capacity for it, which necessitated the building of the ugly-rear end four-foot model.

Edit: I think the biggest differences are the added deck on the four-footer to accommodate Ten Forward. The nacelle struts are also different (the six-footer's struts have a gradual bend, whereas they're straight before curving up on the four-footer), the deflector dish is off-kilter, there's all of the aztecing, the saucer looks like a pregnant guppy because they needed to make it thicker to accommodate the wiring and lighting, and the neck connecting the saucer and engineering hulls is a bit cockeyed.

That's not what I meant. Saying "this show is popular and successful" has just as much merit as "this show is unpopular and unsuccessful" because as far as I've been able to find, there are no significant stats available. I've found that Discovery had better ratings than Picard in Canada on TV, but that's a pretty small subset and doesn't represent much. Besides, I wasn't making an argument, I was pointing out the contradiction from LJS that Picard got renewed because of how well received it is when it was renewed before it even aired. I should know better than to acknowledge them though, and I accept that I'm an idiot for at least that.

No streaming service publicizes its viewership data, only subscriber numbers. And services like Comscore and Quantcast provide cooked numbers. So all we have to go on is what CBS says.

And, again, in any event, the second season of Picard was announced a month before it premiered.

Where was this? The only thing I'd heard from CTV Sci-Fi was that the premiere episode of Picard gave them their best viewing figures for a 'drama series on a specialist cable channel' of all time.

Curious as to the Star Trek streaming situation there in the good ol' US of A? Is everything on CBS All Access?

We've got all the old TV series and discovery on Netflix and the movies on Stan (Australian tv streaming service). Amazon prime has Picard.

Not looking forward to us catching up with the 'every production house has its own service' model you guys are inching towards.

:Edit: forgot about the most recent series!

Canadian talking but, Amazon Prime has all the TV shows including Discovery and Picard, and Insurrection, Trek 09, Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock and The Motion Picture in terms of movies. Netflix has all the TV shows minus Disco and Pic, and used to have all the Trek movies up to Nemesis, but now only has Trek 09 and Beyond (no Into Darkness). Crave TV (a Canadian streaming service) has the TV shows.

You're otherwise poo poo out of luck if you want to stream the other movies in Canada and have to rent them from like Google Play or other services.

I remember them saying that as well. It should be noted that this includes their time as Space, so that's 20-25 years of history before they got rolled into the current CTV rebranding weirdness. I don't really know what that Picard number would be up against in those years, since Space was never particularly huge on first-run premieres, besides maybe ENT, BSG, and The Expanse. They've kinda been a rerun station for most of their existence.

Basically anything that aired first run on SyFy in the US, as well as Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supernatural were considered “first run” on Space/CTV SciFi as well.

Yes, there are a billion asterisks you can throw at it like darts at a dart board, but generally speaking people who watch Star Trek television like Picard. It’s people who are terminally online that tend to hate the show and are incredibly vocal about their hatred, but guess what, they’re still watching it too so CBS don’t give no poo poo.

Perhaps the biggest downside of the new streaming era is that viewership numbers are all private. For all the methodological faults of the Nielsens, at least the numbers were public.
