Salmond was acquitted on a not proven verdict rather than not guilty Not sure if only Scotland has the limbo-verdict. There's many ways to slice it (it really is dumb as gently caress) but many describe it as "we know what you did, but can't quite prove it, watch yer arse ya dodgy fucker"

every time someone makes a transphobic tweet i invent 3 new genders, i have a maximum daily gender production of 42,000 and a gender warehouse full of 6,900,000 emergency reserve genders on particularly big events. all our genders are 100% organic, and we recycle the gender fluid in our aquaphonic sexuality production vats.

Adolf Glitter posted:Salmond was acquitted on a not proven verdict rather than not guilty I had no idea some criminal law systems had more than guilty and not guilty, it's an interesting distinction. From a quick read on Wikipedia, it looks like Scotland is the only place that uses "not proven," although Italy has something somewhat similar.

That's almost certainly just a nazi-run account and not actually anything xr related. The local fascist here has got hold of some stickers with dumb racist poo poo and an xr logo on them so it seems like this is what nazis are doing now.

You can join it and try to help. Especially now in a time of crisis, poverty, and death, you can practice solidarity and mutual aid within your own community in small ways if there aren't strong local groups in your area or if you can't contact or help the ones in your area for whatever reason. Look out for each other, protect your vulnerable neighbours, and remember to politely explain to nazis why they are incorrect, with sources. Seriously right now, buying groceries for someone immunocompromised or feeding a hospitalized person's pet or letting your neighbours know that you've got food if they are going hungry is absolutely as helpful as working the guillotines in an imagined future and the communities we build now will survive and grow stronger when the current crisis passes, even if some of us don't. There is so much more to do than give in to despair and vote for the roni-ridden corpse of Joe Biden because hey this way maybe less people will die. We absolutely have a left and every one of us has some small way to help. Edgar Allen Ho has a new favorite as of 14:37 on Mar 25, 2020 |

Just for the record: besides being extremely reckless and stupidly dangerous, it's also possibly useless. Coronaviruses have a wide range of behaviour regarding immunity. SARS was a Coronavirus, and the immunity from it lasts decades: if you get it once, you're immune for a long time. The common cold is also a Coronavirus, but the immunity to it lasts only a few months, so you can catch it many times. We don't know where Covid stands. It's entirely possible that these idiots will get infected, spread it around (killing people), get over it, and then after half a year whoops, here we go again.

Isn't the thing with the common cold that it's caused by hundreds of different minor diseases and cold symptoms are all caused by your body's basic immune system responses?

Obviously the US should do whatever Russia is doing, since they have only 400 cases and zero deaths. According to what they report to the WHO, which is obviously completely accurate. No reason I thought about Russia when someone mentioned The Federalist. No reason at all. ETA: the “common cold” is a catchall for symptoms caused by many different viruses, estimated at over 200 at present. That’s why people can’t build immunity, not because of any inherent properties of coronaviruses as a class. The plurality of colds are believed to be caused by rhinoviruses, in any case. It's only been 17 years since SARS first showed its face. SARS-CoV-2 is closely related to the original SARS virus (hence the name). That's not to say we expect our immune systems to react to it the same way of course so that information is probably meaningless. The common cold is caused by hundreds of different viruses, most of which are not coronaviruses.

Of course I'm oversimplifying, but the point stands, we don't know if Covid will give immunity or how long it will last. Mikl has a new favorite as of 19:48 on Mar 25, 2020 |
