Yyyup. The game does autosave from time to time but it can definitely screw things up.

The timer only appears when there's "interference". It forces everyone to stop what they are doing and sometimes that's not possible, especially if they're talking to someone long-winded like Saharah.

From my experience last night, when playing online the game seems to only save whenever someone joins or leaves (at least for non host players), cause I had a connection issue and the people that were currently visiting me lost all the fishes they've caught.

I think I'm kinda loving done with Animal Crossing. At this point, I feel like I'm equally pissed and disappointed. Mainly at the limitations it places on you for zero loving reason at all. We only have one Switch because we're poor post-grads and so this game basically is like "You two are not allowed to equally have fun." I let her create the island, and I expected she would be the main resident for a lot of the stuff, but I literally get to do nothing beyond going to islands. I can't place bridges. I can't move other villagers houses. I can't move buildings. I can't do poo poo. It's infuriating. The fact that they lock you to one island per console is loving inexcusable in 20-loving-20.

I sure would like to be able to do something in this game, but I'm not going to spend $300 to buy my own separate system.

Like, why even let people create secondary citizens at all if you're going to do it like this?

I respect this. I'm not there fully but I am disappointed. Not quite for the same reason but close. I don't want all the responsibilities of it. Why can't both of us work on getting things set up? Also why can't I carry stuff if we're playing at the same time?

I honestly can't imagine a good reason for not letting multiple players contribute to island-wide goals like building bridges or furnishing houses for new residents. It just seems needlessly limiting to require only the player who created the island to do it all. Like I don't mind doing it all myself, but my girlfriend can't contribute at all beyond gathering resources and giving them to me and that sucks because she's excited about crafting. We're lucky in that she doesn't really care about designing the town, building bridges, etc. and is happy to just gather and craft and chill, but it still sucks that's all she really can do.

I don't really understand why they'd design it this way.

Why not let multiple players contribute to goals? If they're worried that'll progress things too quickly or whatever... well I can't imagine they give a gently caress since they're on record as not caring about time traveling, which is significantly more of a fast-forward. But if they do care, just make it so either player can pick up a goal and then that one is the one who can complete it. Or let players pass around the Resident Representative title and take turns. That might be especially relevant if the player who created the island gets tired of the game but the other one wants to keep playing, for example.

My girlfriend and I are lucky because the part of the game she's allowed to do turns out to be the part she actually does want to do, so it's not really hindering the game for us, but not every shared island situation is going to be like ours.

I'm willing to put down the online stuff as Nintendo's general inability to make functioning online services, but everything about how the shared island works is clearly an intentional design decision and I find it utterly baffling.

100% agree. For my wife and I, she cares about the town progress and crafting, but she'd prefer I handle the town design aspect of things. Basically, it would be perfect if I had access to the "place these bridges and move building" tools and she had access to everything else.

Yeah, so you and I are at the exact same spot. Don't have any amiibos unfortunately (and the animals I care about don't have amiibos anyway). I've definitely heard about adding campsite villagers. But I've also seen a lot of people still seeing villagers on islands.

Between myself and my wife, we've been to like 30 islands without a single villager. But that was before today, when resident services finished upgrading. And I've deffo read about the 10k plots of land but don't understand how that factors in to all of this.

One other thing to note is that after I invited the animal from the campsite it wasn't long before I started getting requests to move out. Which worked for me because I was trying to get amiibo villagers to move in.

Been taking it slow due to work and stuff. Will any issues pop up if I put down houses for my initial 3 new residents up on a cliff? Like will they be stuck up there until I get the ability to terraform and make ramps and poo poo or will they just ignore it?

Is there a way to stop the music coming from a device (skull player, radio, tape player, etc) without having to just pocket the device and then re-set it in one's room? I touch the item and it goes to the "Select which KK album to play" screen and I'd rather just shut it off.

The instruments are good - I have an electric guitar, an ocarina, a drum kit, and a panflute at the moment, and playing any of them along with a music player in the area is fun. I kinda want to get an online goon jam band together someday.

I also caught myself the one goddamn Stringfish in all my island's existence after 100 or so baits tossed into my pitifully small above-cliff rivers over time. It was raining over the course of the day, and while gathering clams and attempting the Stringfish I also caught a Coelecanth, a Tuna, and a Golden Trout. Then I totally hosed up and sold the trout instead of donating it. :X

Fun Shoe
The one island limitation is by far the game's biggest flaw, and I'd probably be more charitable towards it if it weren't a ploy to sell more consoles and copies of the game.

My GF and I are playing together and we've had to take active measures to "share" the island. First person to play leaves some holes/rocks/limited items until the other gets a chance to play, I as the primary resident communicate what I need for projects and she chips in equally but also has equal say as to where stuff goes. It's not perfect and she hates that the game just didn't give her all the blueprints it gave me, but it works I guess. I'm not sure I'd be happy playing with someone else as the primary so I'm glad she's okay with it lol.

I don't know how a whole family could manage to share an island though.
