Been reading A False Confession. Which despite its title is less of a romance and more of a war story from a ground level you don't see too often in isekai.

Basically the protag is a Korean woman who reincarnates in a fantasy world, except instead of being a noblewoman like she expected she's just an orphan on the streets. She gets taken into an orphanage run by a church and grows up to be a priestess, basically because it was the path of least resistance. But since priests have actual healing magic in this fantasy world (and she's unfortunately talented at it), she gets drafted to serve as a medic in a war.

Basically lots of marching punctuated by short and bloody moments of violence, followed by emptiness, PSTD, and life inexplicably moving on even when she can't.

Also sort of interesting how the protag's internal monologue is this high speed, nervous "please don't cause any trouble, I really, really, REALLY don't want any trouble," but if you look at her from the outside she seems to appear stoic and self-sacrificing and dare I say saintly to everyone else.

Looks like it was pulled from mangadex.

This is very enjoyable. It seems to be building up to the idea of the grim reaper having very serious PTSD and thus understanding her a lot more than the more nice looking prince.

I started off really liking Two Saints because everyone's sensible and there's no conflict.

Then I got really bored of it because everyone's sensible and there's no conflict.

There's a bit of conflict around everyone being super protective about the two Saints while they want to do their own thing, but it really is minor despite being the driving force behind most of what's been translated so far. I had been kind of growing bored of it myself, up until the story reached the first dungeon and it revealed there's more behind the relationship between the monsters and the Saints than anyone realized. I wouldn't say I'm hooked now, but I'm interested enough to keep checking it out here and there.

Maybe it's just me, but I found how everyone keeps going, "Oh, the previous Saints were all frail and scared, so it sure is surprising how different you are!" to be rather condescending. Also the fact it took until chapter 5 for them to actually go off and start purifications makes the story feel a bit more boring.

there's no real hook to it. no drama, no comedy, no tragedy, no action, no romance, and certainly no novelty given that it is an isekai webnovel.

I'd say that there's a 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure' novelty to it that's only now just kicking off. The payoff to that is going to be key to how good it actually is.

I found a new 'genre' of not quite isekai that I am quite enjoying, where people are being reborn as adorable princesses/noble daughters.

Lady Baby and The Youngest Princess are the two I've been reading and they're both adorable art wise.

Who Made Me a Princess is my favorite one of those, although it's more on the depressing side in the latest updates

i also like The Abandoned Empress, which despite the absurdly melodramatic opening has a great build up of the protagonist and the male leads

I am disputing the label of "not quite isekai" when it is literally the very definition of isekai.

Well, technically the past is another country, not another world.

Is it really the past when it takes place in a totally unrecognizable country? It's not like these people are reincarnating in France.

Lady baby is just time travel into her own baby self.

Youngest Princess is the same world in the same exact timeframe as their sealing just reborn in another nation.

Thus my saying not quite isekai.

Fantasy isn’t isekai - time travel arguably is, but just being in a fantasy world isn’t enough. The idea of isekai is transition from one world to another,

In other less horrible news, I found Chitra which I'm loving and hope get more translated chapters some day. Apparently the raws go to 82, but translations stopped at 38.

It's an Isekai about a failing at life girl from korea who loved mobile games getting selected by the God of Beauty as his apostle, with the goal of making the (fantasy) world more full of beautiful men and faith in the god of beauty.

To help with this, she is granted a sacred power based on her previous life's interests.

She receives gacha powers. By completing quests she gets gacha tickets and can summon hot/cute/beautiful/bishi/etc ancient hero guys.

It's pretty funny and I read it all in one sitting today.

Another series I've been enjoying is The Evil Lady's Hero which is kinda like your standard "reincarnated as the villainess but I want to avoid the bad ending" except in this case the protagonist decides to avoid her fate by just staying away from everyone involved in the drama. Until one night she gets drunk at a party and ends up sleeping with the male lead. And then she just decides to roll with it because he's cute like a puppy and she's got a pretty casual approach to dating. They can always just break up amicably after he falls in love with the heroine, right?

I guess it's hard to pinpoint anything, like, interesting or notable about the series other than the protagonist's attitude towards everything. I guess she has much more of an "adult" perspective on romance that you don't see too often in these stories. I like the art too.

Mangadex labels it as smut because they have offscreen sex in the first chapter though.
