In meteorology, vorticity often refers to a measurement of the spin of horizontally flowing air about a vertical axis.

Just saying I'm not so sure it's quite as death-culty as appears. (Not quite being the operative in that statement... still pretty death-culty, just not as much).

Yeah, my first thought (because I grew up Mormon) was that it was a Mormon mom (or girlfriend?) celebrating her kid on a two-year mission coming home early thanks to the virus.

Maybe if the wires are sprayed with enamel insulation or something. If it's just bare copper twisted together it'll just explode or blow the circuit breaker the second you plug it in.

It doesn't look insulated to me. Nor does it look burnt. But it's presented as if it were something someone earnestly tried to do. I still don't get it. It has to be electrician humor or something.

They've historically had a lot of problems, actually, because of the noise and light levels that they've had to deal with compared to a normal bedroom and the physical discomfort or weirdness of their sleep setup.

Probably worse than that, since that's not a WWII carrier. They didn't have angled decks until after the war.

That's the Midway, which was commissioned right at the end of the war (September 1945) and was (I think) the last carrier of that era to be retired; she was refitted with an angled deck which made the ship extremely top-heavy and unstable.

The US Navy managed to sail a couple of fleets into typhoons in 1944 and 45, though:

If you're willing to travel to Charleston, SC (maybe when this whole pandemic thing is over) you can wander around one; the Yorktown is a museum ship there. It's over twice the length of an attack sub, and still significantly bigger than a missile boat though. Not to mention the width and significantly increased floor area. If you get there before next year, there's also a WWII sub to check out, it's slated to be a reef after that though.
