Good to see that everything is back to normal.
People make or break a small post. Overall, I’m a fan, but also have been pretty lucky.

How's everyone set up for telework options going forward? We have the plans in place but haven't implemented yet, which is super cool because pretty much all of our flight options out of Turkey have been shut down.

I finally got my FAN account working so can spend the pandemic looking at emails from the week in 2017 when people used FAN.

I kid, they've actually improved it quite a bit. Google Meets is probably going to turn out to be very useful in coming days.

No telework for us CONS folks.

That was my plan too. The uncertainty at our post started getting to my wife. We took the AD option. I wanted to stay at post but my section head convinced me to leave with my family. Two days of travel to get home. Hope it was the right call.

Trying to isolate at home. I'm currently in a school program and just found out my classmate who sat at my table tested positive. Last had physical contact two weeks ago (switched to online class delivery), so should be in the clear, but... yeah

Thanks guys! “Semper Gumby” indeed. I’m in a weird situation work wise that i won’t go into here, but it’s a pretty unique and funny situation for sure! I should be okay as long as they onboard us within a couple of months. Looking forward to joining the crew.

Any of y'all use the State Dept. Federal Credit Union? Applied for an account since they accept Americans without a US address but have read mixed reviews. I guess worst case I'll just use their cash back credit card and put :10bux: in a savings account, but maybe they're actually OK?

I signed up for the $10 when I joined. They had the worst website I'd ever seen and seemed way more focused on domestic employees than FS so I finally closed my account.

You're a cantaloupe!
SDFCU has worked fine for me, mostly using their services through the app. But I don't really use it for much beyond paying bills and transfering to saving accounts. I have an SDFCU credit card but never use it (emergency reserve).

I recommend getting a USAA account too, you might need to get the right person on the phone. I've got a index fund through them and got my daughter started with her own account there too. Good service, good app, in my experience.

I didn't have a negative experience with them, but I didn't find anything that they did better than USAA, and agree they cared more about domestic employees.

Thanks for the feedback, most of my banking is done with a foreign bank, so I just need something for the occasional bill pay and I think the SDFCU should be fine then. I also heard good things about USAA but I'm just an American emigrant, not in the FS or military, so my options are limited.

A friend just got a mortgage on a house thru SDFCU from post, because they are willing to write it as a primary residence even if you're not going to occupy immediately, since they "get" our lifestyle. He said it was like pulling teeth and they were incredibly incompetent through the process, that their internal communication between departments/employees was non-existent. Even though he saved a good bit on the interest rate he said next time he'll use a different bank.

I used a realtor who was overseas with a DoD spouse and has worked with FS clients so she gets our lifestyle especially when buying while overseas.

She specifically said to avoid SDFCU for mortgages based on her experience.

Looks like we're teleworking on alternating days now. window work continues though. I'm not taking advantage of AD since I'm in a "nice" country that I trust is managing this COVID-19 stuff better than the US.

And for Nurabsal, congratulations! And condolences on the state of limbo you're in now. What a way to get indoctrinated to this FS life!

Once I got tier-two mortgage support from USAA, we were fine. The first-tier person we had nearly screwed us out of getting a home - while I was serving in Libya - but when I complained, her communications magically improved. I have to imagine her boss had a red stapler to her back.

I used SDFCU for access to the safe deposit box when I was stationed in DC, since USAA doesn't have those. Once we PCS'd overseas, I moved everything to my in-laws' safe deposit box and closed SDFCU.

Anyone have any good ideas for a short-termish federal position I can jump on while waiting for state to sort through this crisis? Rumor has it this delay could last a while and that my position might not onboard until 2021...I applied to some FEMA style contract positions recently, as an example. Would appreciate any PM's. Willing to relocate. I don't have active NCE, unfortunately, and am not current or past federal.

Hearty lift of locally procured beer to those working on repatriating Amcits back to the States in this insanity. Thank god we haven't had to do much of that - we had commercial air connections here longer than almost everywhere else, and our resident population mostly decided that Turkey will handle things better than the US will.

Out of curiosity, what's the longest time anyone has had an open application on USA Jobs before it went anywhere? I've had one referred to the hiring specialist back in December, and while I'm not fussed about it because, obviously, the government has problems on its hands and things move at the speed they're allowed, it did make me curious. I've had private sector jobs take 6+ months to respond back.

Almost two years for a job that I didn't get anyways. God I hate that website.
