I think their silence was more because they were shocked they found such an easy mark. They got all they wanted and more. Any life lessons or ownings occurred entirely in the writer's head.

Why do they have a giant bag of piss at the ready? Even if I coincidently have to take a massive piss at the same time people are being obnoxiously loud underneath my window my first instinct wouldn't be to pee in a bag. Also people can't hold that much pee inside them, a woman died because she was trying to hold her piss in after drinking a single gallon of water (it was a radio contest when Nintendo Wii's were completely sold out called "hold your wee for a wii").

Hitting someone on the head with that much water from that height could break their neck and/or kill them outright. That looked like at least a concussion.

Porn producers are pretty relaxed about verifying the age of their actors, as gross as that seems. Also it's easier than ever to sell your own content these days, and I've got friends who were already finding that pretty easy like 15-20 years ago.

I think my biggest complaint about a LOT of support groups is how intricately entwined with religion they are. Not just with meetings being held in churches, but the constant barrage of religious materials and the encouragement "look to god when things get tough" is really loving stupid. Addiction is a physical thing, not a fairy tale like god.

Zipperelli. posted:Addiction is a physical thing This is really wrong and a bad way to think about it. Addiction is often just as much a social problem as it anything else. Also if you took away all the church-affiliated addiction services you'd just end up with far, far fewer addiction services. And to be honest it's really effective for a lot of people, as much anything because a church can provide a healthy and supportive community for someone to be a part of. Maybe it's different in the states or wherever you are though? I know the US has a lot more lovely, exploitative, predatory church groups

Also, we're speaking about alcoholics anonymous, so framing it as a physical addiction is dead on balls accurate because alcohol is a literal physical dependence after long-term boozin'

Zipperelli. posted:I'm in the southern United States, so yeah, churches are a problem around here. He's saying that for the most part people don't gain addictions in a vacuum, someone with a genetic predilection for addictive behaviors might never develop a problem if they grew up in a supportive environment where they're given the emotional and social resources they need to succeed and thrive, compared to someone who grows up in a poor and violent area with little to no one who gives a poo poo about them, or in an abusive household. The reason AA works for so many people is because it gives them that supportive environment they otherwise might lack. People don't develop addictions just because they keep using a substance until they're physically dependent on it. I'm physically dependent on my sleep medication but I don't see it out as an emotional crutch, it's entirely utilitarian and if I wanted to I could wean myself off it like I have countless other medications and never think about it again or feel the desire to use it again, but I go through withdrawal if I stop cold turkey regardless. Physical dependency is not addiction, addiction places the psychological dependency full-front, otherwise most addicts would be cure as soon as the physical dependency was severed.
