Personally I'm a firm believer that making Deathwing count as both a Hero and a Monster would go a long ways towards balancing him.

From what I've heard from the dwindling handful that still play this Dead Game, Deathwing is actually reasonably balanced. Not being able to be healed and literally everything he does having a wind-up keeps him in check, as does his massive vulnerability to Health Shred.

After the repeated nerfs, Deathwing can be fine in league where you're likely to build a composition against him, but he still wrecks Quick Match which is where most people actually play. He has a very narrow talent list, and he's the definition of a hero that can win the game at comp. There needs to be more ways for other heroes to engage with him mechanically.

 I wouldn't know, I'm just repeating what I've been told by people who are still in. Thinking about it, I can definitely see how his kit would be overwhelming against unprepared teams - Cho'Gall had the same issue.

:norway::thumbsup:
The issues are about the same, but it's a slightly larger problem as he only requires one player. I think he's pretty easy to deal with, but if you are oblivious to his telegraphed wind ups and sound effects he can do a lot of poo poo for free. Any coordinated (pffft) player can play safe and whittle him down quite easily. Skill shot characters will dunk on him.

Agreed, his biggest weakness is mobility, not % damage. Nevertheless, he’s like always ban no 1 in my games, maybe after Xul.

he is pretty drat strong on channeled objective maps if you take that talent that lets him just hang out in the sky dropping rocks on you

Death of a game you say?

Yes.

A good summery of events, cannot disagree with any of it really. I started at 2.0 so it was cool seeing the game pre-that and how it changed, also lol at Smash being more popular to watch competitively.

So, uh, what happens in April when "play all heroes for free!" ends? Is it time for the big patch with a new "nexus anomaly" or something?

Also I'm a little sour on the free heroes thing. I started at 2.0 and my personal goal was to unlock all heroes. Went out of my way to save every bit of gold and gems for hero unlocks. I only have 4 left at this point, so getting them all for free wasn't much of a treat for me.

HOTS was overdue for a major patch for several months. However, they """leaked""" information about how the next event they're going to be doing is based on the Greek pantheon, so maybe something will happen.

Will they finally deliver on promised features from 2018?
Will they release the Tassadar, D.Va, Gazlowe, The Lost Vikings, or Nova reworks that they've discussed (or in some cases promised) literally years ago?
Will they fart out a new hero that will be either absurdly overpowered or appallingly underwhelming?

Only time will tell!

He hasn't been touched since early last year, and that was only a slight change. He's been benefiting from the experience globes though.

The last time that Gazlowe received major changes was in March of 2017, when Probius was added.

The developers have stated multiple times that they're aware that players are unhappy with how clunky he is and have been "considering" solutions since at least 2018, if not earlier.

They could have done such an easy water/air elemental thing for Ragnaros but Blizzard is a lovely, dead husk of a company. I'm sure they'd say a water one would "get too confusing with Jaina's water elemental ultimate" but that's horse poo poo because he'd be like twice as big and probably have an entirely different skin anyway.

Though something tells me that a lot of their ideas for characters/balancing are due to everyone at the company being worse at the game than most of QM.

I can see some hesitation in giving Ragnaros a skin that makes him a different kind of elemental, simply for the "but what if we want to make a playable elemental of that type".

It's not a problem for, say Therazane, but if they ever wanted to put Al'akir or Neptulon in the game, Rag cannot have an air or water elemental skin.

drat I guess they didn't make a Medic after Medic Uther and an Amazon after Amazon Valla

They changed the medic and amazon characters to look different than the skins, no reason they couldn't do it with Al'akir or Neptulon

Hell just give him Murmur or Ahune skins instead of taking the big dogs like Al'akir or Neptulon

Level 7
Calldown: MULE (Active)
Removed.
(New Talent) Spawn Drone (Active)
Spawns a Drone in a visible location targeting the nearest Fort or Keep (regardless of being destroyed) and morphs into a Hatchery. Hatcheries slowly repairs all structures nearby by 25 health every second and spawns a Roachling and 2 Zerglings every 25 seconds, Hatcheries have 750 health and lasts 60 seconds.
90 seconds cooldown.

I really wish this april fools talent for Abathur was real, that'd be super cool.

Not really. I think they changed a few cool downs and health several patches ago?
In qm he's basically a miracle cure for terrible aggressive teams due to Lava Wave, fixing lazy laning and level disadvantages at the press of a button.

Amazon Nova has the same outfit as Cassia, but even then they're differentiated by their overall body shape and respective weapons.

All the Big Elementals in Warcraft have the same body plan of big elemental swirl with a torso on top. The biggest differences, visually, would be their colors, their shoulders, and their weapons, and you lose color if you let Rag have different elemental skins.

Ragnar-O's should definitely be a skin, though.

TLV need buffs (slight ones, especially to talents like Spy Games that have been obsoleted by gameplay changes), not a rework. Based on their other reworks I'm pretty sure TLV would get turned into a completely different hero that no longer split pushes and soaks XP, and that would totally kill what makes them fun and unique.

Also DW is fine. Everything he does has a 1 second wind-up and is easy to dodge. His ultimate and his big fat body are his two real contributions to most games.

Android Blues
Nov 22, 2008

Like, you can literally 1v1 Deathwing as Murky with Fish Tank. He's not a big damage threat if you move out of the way of his attacks.

The other most effective thing I've seen him do is just be a really annoying split pusher. You can't really pressure him out of the lane without devoting someone who can duel him or multiple heroes, because he has a giant health pool and you can't CC him under tower.

You can just walk out of the range of Incinerate before it goes off. As Murky, you don't need to be autoattacking him in melee range to deal damage. He's not gonna get multiple stacks of Heat Wave up unless you have teammates letting him proc it.

Yeah, maybe. I'd like to see them get a talent rework that doesn't dramatically change the playstyle or purpose of the hero, and based on previous ex-Specialist reworks, I have a feeling a TLV rework from Blizzard right now would be a lot more sweeping than that.

I really like playing TLV! They're super fun! They have been way less good since the stealth and XP globe changes, even with the stat boost they received in compensation for XP globes - and there have been a bunch of other little things that have hurt their viability over the years, like the increasing number of "hit <x> heroes" quests. I'd like to see some of their weaker talents get tuned up. I just don't want them to turn into a teamfight hero with a reduced focus on micro/map presence, and I'd be amazed if that wasn't the direction Blizzard wanted to push them in.

Yeah same. All the way around Blizzard has basically given up on their original idea of forcing teams to balance team fights with laning - the contemporary game is overwhelmingly in favor of team fights and any hero that threatens that has been methodically stripped of their laning ability.
