I was fresh out uni when the crisis burst and even then moving north seemed a gambit; sure, you had way more jobs, esp in my field, but it was still a lot of holding out and see if the economy turned up I really regretted not learning german on highschool then lol

But we, no, we're not going to pull out extra money to help the Southern EU members let's not go crazy. The one time where coming together and helping people is absolutely necessary and he does this poo poo.

This is a situation where money really does not matter, even if you're otherwise of a capitalistic mindset. We'll all go into debt to each other because of the overall slowdown, but as it is global it'll all even out. It is just numbers expressing the situation before cancelling out. The only way to ruin that is deciding to be an rear end in a top hat to others.

Rutte has been in power for 10 years. Under his cabinets, Dutch IC capacity has been halved. Villages in East-Brabant (the heaviest hit area in NL) are burying their dead in the dozens, but because we do not have sufficient testing capacity (guess why), many of them do not even show up in the official death statistics. The majority of the Dutch population thinks Rutte is handling this crisis admirably.

My main issue with this whole eurobonds thing is that the only reason we have a surplus is 10+ years of gutting our social support networks, accessibility to courts, etc. And back during the eurocrisis we where also slow to recover because of austerity measures making people unable to spend/reignite the economy.

Rutte is the shittiest piece of poo poo, but he's also the most recent in a long line of poo poo. Just a great big brown line of political diarreah for years. And the fact is that there are more and worse pieces of poo poo waiting in the wings to take the reins from him. And honestly, the reason why people think he's handling it admirably is because at the moment he has Italy to point at as 'at least I'm keeping you from being them'. I'm just hoping the longer this holds and the more the Netherlands unravels (especially when South and North-Holland actually get hit with Brabant levels of the 'roni) people see him for the piece of poo poo that he is.

(a novel postulating Adolf Hitler's miraculous return to 2011 after attempting to kill himself), there's a hilarious scene in which Hitler has a televised debate with a Green politician and he keeps hammering on their common ideas, to the utter dismay of said politician, who'd obviously be committing career suicide if she's seen to agree with anything Hitler says. There's a movie version of the novel, but it's not that good. The novel itself is quite smart, however.
