In other news this is really stressing out scientist twitter

https://twitter.com/CT_Bergstrom/status/1244104135697285120

Basically, there hasn't been a scientifically backed reason for CDC to officially make this announcement, which came shortly after the president started tweeting about it / talking about it to the press. The initial reaction to it from the epidemiologists is that it's not useful / waste of time and resources to enforce at this point. While CDC is under questionable leadership, their overall activity and actions are still quite useful and needed. If they are more actively carrying water for the administration that places their public announcements / interaction much more in question meaning that we don't really have an uncompromised federal voice for the pandemic any longer.

Hopefully CDC provides a valid answer to this quickly but we (scientific community) are really worried about this one.

It’s because Trump was blathering about quarantining NY, NJ and CT, taking the CDC and the (Democratic) governor’s office those three states by surprise. He walked it back but then tweeted this last night:

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1244056559577071616

So of course there’s no science or clear policy behind it, just the Big Wet President twittershouting into oblivion.

Also, the CDC is headed by a Trump appointed quack who is so lovely that even W Bush passed him over.

I know. We're just waiting to see if CDC even tries to justify it with data.

This would be a big change as despite their top guy being a shill, their public advisories have not previously been dictated by the WH.

Trump got to NOAA... There is no executive agency Trump will not corrupt and force to back up his bullshit.

That's because the shithead that runs accuweather was been lobbying to kneecap the national weather service for years, and only backed out of his nomination to head NOAA because he got rear end cancer.

I know. This just marks the turning point if no data exists and means we have to consider all news from CDC potentially false if not politically beneficial to Trump's ratings.

From my own feed it's been more bummed about the overall response until this. CDC overall hadn't been so suspect. That changed with this which is why I'm posting on it. It's not like we didn't expect it, just like EPA, NOAA, etc. Just that it marks the final straw in regard to credibility.

I hope that, whenever DeSantis goes, the number of dead Floridians he took down with him is engraved on his tombstone, as prominently as possible.

IDK if that counts as bloodlust or w/e, but if it does then so be it.

EDIT: just saw this

When I was a Wee Boot, I really wanted to go into epidemiology and infectious disease research. I alas do not have the math skills for that sort of thing, and didn't really have the discipline. CDC was the coolest thing to read about, seeing them eat poo poo like this has been rough.

It's bloodlust to hope that everyone who get coronavirus dies, it's not bloodlust to hope that someone who's words and actions have caused the deaths of others all so they could enrich themselves or their friends.

The number of coronavirus infections continues to increase in Lake and Sumter counties, growing overnight from 61 to 78 cases overnight, according to figures from Saturday evening.

Almost half the infections — and almost all in Sumter County — are in the Villages, the retirement community of more than 100,000 people that sprawls across Lake, Sumter and Marion counties. The number total 35 for The Villages, with 33 of them in Sumter.

Neither Lake nor Sumter has followed the lead of Orange and Osceola counties, which put “stay-at-home” orders in place this week.
