We went split tunnelled thankfully, and the Always On VPN server had whole 107 people on it!! Don't know what the other 1800 people with laptops are up to, but supposedly this poo poo can scale up to like 2k devices with 4 CPUs so guess we'll wait and see.

Officially on self-quarantine. Sent my boss an email and he about pooped his pants. Spent the last 3 hours "listing all the work I could do from home" at his request. Longest email I've ever written.

At this point there needs to be a Glassdoor type site naming and shaming companies that are refusing to let people WFH when they are clearly capable. It goes beyond the health of their employees, it directly affects me and anyone else in this country, no matter where you live. The longer people have contact unnecessarily the longer we are all going to be in this poo poo and the greater the chance that someone you know is going to die from this. It's great if we manage to get infections down in my state by social distancing, but all pointless when some state with a chuckefuck governor or some business that doesn't trust their employees to work create another hotspot and start this all over again. If we could freeze everyone in place 6 feet from each other for 14 days, this would essentially be over. But no, everyone is too important to stay put for two weeks.

Boy I sure am glad Teams is enabling the hour long 'stand-up' my waterfall trained manager who has never until this moment actually bothered me is enforcing at 8:45 every loving morning before I have had sufficient caffeine (I'm a staff developer who floats between 4 departments and report directly to the department head, this is the first time anyone's actually tried to manage me and my productivity has utterly plummeted). On the WFH plus side; instead of a view that consists of the brick wall of the IBM office next door, I now have an amazing view over a field of horses, a dedicated garden office with a really good sound system, and our work VPN is actually fairly decent.

I also hate when people don't answer the question you asked, but if you're talking about a half gig partition, I would strongly advise against getting rid of that. Which you can do by creating a recovery disk, which will then remove that partition. But don't do it. If it's something more, if there's some kind of orphaned, many GB partition which you can't manage through Disk Management, I'd think diskpart would be able to handle it. Start with list disk, select disk #, list partition, and delete from there.

They'd manage to do that by just not connecting to the VPN, though. Having the security of people's home laptops reliant on sending all their internet traffic through a corporate firewall probably worked fine when 1Gbps connections in people's homes weren't common, but it seems like a pretty backwards setup now.

Only issue I've ran into with split tunneling, at least with our VPN, is when someones at a hotel or conference center or something and the DHCP address they get matches an internal IP scheme for us. The VPN thinks they're sitting on our internal network and nothing ends up working. Its rare but does happen every once in a while.

We ran into that too for users who had the same VLAN on their internal network as our internal network. Our Cisco guy did some funky NAT stuff with specific internal IP's to get poo poo working in that case.

Anyone using Azure Windows Virtual Desktop? Starting to deploy it. I'm surprised it went into GA in Sept of 2019 and they are only expecting it to have a management blade in Azure portal in Q3 of 2020. I mean, I guess I shouldn't be, but I am. Still excited to use it.

Anyone else work for a small consulting firm and have no work to do? All of our current clients have either closed up shop temporarily or aren't currently taken on new projects. New clients are apparently basically impossible to get a hold of or have no interest in talking to anyone. Just waiting for the day I get laid off at this point. Sucks, too, i really liked these people and started not long ago.

Unfortunately, that's kind of what happens when business experience uncertainty. My place is in fairly decent shape, all things considered, but even internal IT, we are very cognizant not to make massive changes right now. People are stressed and handling about all the change they can handle right now. If we break something, things are much more sensitive. So we're in a bit of a holding pattern.

Yeah I've had my hours dropped by 10% and a cut in pay to go with that, the alternative was to drop 20% and not be able to do any work but also not able to do anything else due to travel restrictions. Our clients have all stopped all talk of spending and are desperately trying to make cuts where they can. We had a bit of a boom getting people set up with VPN that had ignored the entire concept of business continuity prior to now, but it's a ghost town now.
