Honestly, you can wait. Its mount & blade with some QoL improvements and it looks prettier. I'm enjoying myself but I could have probably got this on sale in summer or whatever.

minchar posted:

You're missing nothing, it is definitely Mount and Blade but Warband is still better right now due to how crashy and buggy Bannerlord is, and the fact that no mods work. Once they put more time into it though it has the potential to be the best M&B yet.

Good luck with the job.

Cheers for being canary down the mines for me. I hope it gets good, and I'm sure it will. I adored the first one and maybe they're just releasing this to a) keep afloat and b) give us something.

I'll get it when its substantially cool and good.

i guess it's specifically because you haven't played it in 5 years? i've played warband a couple times a year on and off, and i'm a little confused as to why it took them 7 years to make bannerlord instead of, like, 3 years.

not to jump on you or anything. it just hasn't felt like a huge step up for me so far. it's pretty good though

Having not played the first one I'm into this, but it does feel very raw and I'm surprised to hear this took 8 years of development. There are a lot of CTDs, I may be in a CTD loop in my campaign right now that I can't get out of without going to an older save. Content is pretty light - I played for 4 or 5 hours yesterday and feel like I saw all or at least most of the quests. Quests are way too rare.

Most of the substantial changes seem to be in the late game when you own fiefs or run your own kingdom. Early on it is pretty much just warband with better graphics and some mods baked in. I appreciate that trade goods exist in significant quantities now so you can actually earn decent cash running as a caravan. I like that you have higher default prisoner capacity and you no longer need to run blunt weapons to be able to capture people and that every major town has a ransom broker. I don't like that bandit hideouts still don't let you choose who gets in the mission and I have to watch all my low-level troops get slaughtered by bandit archers.

The Vlandians are supposed to be the predecessors of the Swadians and Rhodoks. They don’t even get bowmen and heir veteran crossbowmen carry pavises. They’ve also got veteran foot infantry called Sergeants so yeah they’re rather Rhodok like.

Quests seem kinda bugged, I'm getting crashes exclusively from those. Just gonna roll around and trade, my crew is too slow to catch looters. Probably because the horses I buy walk backwards on three legs

Buy Sumpter Horses at <40, sell over 125.

Why would you SELL Sumpter Horses? It's free lootcargo capacity!

Also, how AMAZING is it that cargo capacity isn't tied to bumping up some lame non-combat skill anymore?

Is there any way to abandon a mission? I've got a quest to fight some poachers at a village, but the village was looted so I can't complete the mission, and my game crashes when the mission timer runs out.

I don't like how they've stripped down the customization in multiplayer. I understand it makes it easier for new players to have a preset loadout that's effective, but you should still be able to dive in and customize what you're wearing etc.

Aside from that, the combat feels a lot smoother and polished and I've been fuckin owning everybody.

A reboot of all things stopped my crashes.

The combat/battles and easier town and city interface makes this worthwhile alone, although I never played modded warband.

The biggest negative I have is that for tournaments you do a piddly 2 damage against names nobles (probablymore with weapon skill or strength). I am not good enough to beat one on realistic yet but the game is actually a challenge now instead of holding S and swinging.

Empire absolutely has horse troops and shield users (cataphracts/legionaries), they're just high in the tech tree.

What's the skill line I need to invest in/dump a companion's xp into to be able to passively train troops? I think there was a "trainer" skill in Warband so I assume there is one here. Hate having to kill looter after looter and losing a couple levys I am trying to train every time.

So I was doing something I never did in the other games. Trading. I made about 10k gold yesterday just loving around trading. Is there a rhyme or reason for why prices would drop dramatically over a day or two? Sometimes I would travel to a local city and the prices of really expensive items dropped a ton and put me in a deficit.

Supply and demand. Villagers and caravans will buy and sell goods just like you can and that'll effect prices. Unfulfilled demand from villagers or caravans getting raided will also mean prices go up. The effect being that by the time you arrive at a city with stuff to sell the situation (and thus the price) may be different than what you'd hoped. Still, if you bought trade goods at a decent price you should be able to find somewhere else to sell at a profit and with inventory management not being a pain like in Warband it's okay to hold onto stuff for a while.

That is good to know. This game more so than the last showed me how important calvary is. I still only have a small army of 20 because I am trying to make as much money as I can (up to 11k) but unlike the other games where I just made a shield wall with crossbow men behind them, I think I will make a balanced army this time.

The skill tree is smoother, but I only seem to see different horses available to ride at skill 10 and then 90.
