One point DeMaurice Smith made regarding the CBA on ESPN Daily was that the Coronavirus crisis started picking up speed shortly before the vote, which may have affected the decision to lock in the proposed benefits while it was still possible. I’m not at all sure the owners wouldn’t have used the pandemic and related losses as an excuse to water down any further version of the agreement. I feel like the resident CBA apologist, but how is it *that* dreadful? The biggest difference is that the majority of the league gets a 20% payrise for one more game of football a season. It sucks more for the well-paid vets, but they will presumably be compensated through a salary cap boost. Is there compelling evidence that the extra game will lead to a massive difference in injuries erc?

I think a lot of the issue was some of the finer print, like the mandatory holdout fines, there was some fuckery about the post career health funding, that sort of thing. It was a masterpiece from the owners about seeming comparatively generous, while taking back a lot of things out of sight

I work in compliance for 3rd party vendors and the first thing I tell new employees is that an insurance agent works in sales, not insurance. So many people just go to their brother-in-law/hunting buddy/family friend and assume they’ll be taken care of, only to get a cheap garbage rear end policy.

During that time, between having kids, several cars, moving, etc. there are tons of changes so I make it a point to visit the agent once a year to make sure everything is a-ok. Anyways while visiting the office (wasn't with the head honcho of the office, but he has been there forever) and he told me a good one. Said he bought a van, had his kid drive it and it caught fire and burned to the ground. He didn't realize he had the wrong coverage on it so basically *poof*. So yeah, check your coverages. Max them if financially possible.

They can also sign Chris Jones to a deal instead of franchising him if they choose to which would be expensive as hell but could push the cap hit back. There are a bunch of middling guys they could cut even though they may not want to like Daniel Sorensen. They'd better not cut Dirty Dan the playoff machine.

Ches Neckbeard posted:Retirement benefits went from 200k to 40k yearly was among the more egregious things I... don’t think that’s right? I looked it up and found this article, which seems to suggest most players would see an increase in their pension. https://401kspecialistmag.com/retired-nfl-players-hope-for-win-with-new-cba-deal/ ”Currently, some inactive players collect up to $135,000 year, or $11,250 a month, in disability benefits from the NFL. If they also receive, say, $2,000 a month from Social Security, they collect $13,250 a month in disability payments. The NFL wants to end that “double dipping” and reduce the players’ NFL benefits by offsetting the amount they receive from Social Security. So a player who now receives $11,250 from the league and $2,000 from Social Security would see his football benefit fall to $9,250. The size of that NFL benefit would shrink further over time as the player’s Social Security disability benefit rose to account for the cost of living and as he started to receive his pension.” Maybe the bolded part is what you’re thinking of?
