I had to contrast that to stuff like genuine US dissident thinkers being given a platform on RT to criticise their countries, I mean how the anti-anti-imperialist complex is probably platforming a bunch of honest critics as well and that'd be one reason they're so easy to sell to leftists and "leftists" as someone to support.

The big difference is on one hand between the perspectives of listening to your own dissidents speak against your own official propaganda, and listening to the other guy's dissidents speaking in support of your own official propaganda. And on the other hand between the perspectives of listening to the dissidents of the more powerful actor speaking against its official propaganda and listening to the dissidents of the underdog actor speaking in support of the powerful actor's propaganda.

Sorry if this sounds dead simple and obvious, I just think it's meaningful to have a narrative that doesn't rely on demonizing all people funded by the NED or whatever as dishonest traitors but is still able to clearly articulate how platforming a single one of them in an imperialist country is unacceptable. That it's material support to that country's imperialist ambitions and carries more weight than any nominally anti-imperialist talk. As far as I've generally seen, people don't have great intuitions for how it can even be bad to support a person that is basically good or good to support a person that is basically bad and tend to fall back on arguing about whether that person *actually* is good or bad.

I mean, so far as I understand, NED is the kind of propaganda funding org that selects people whose voices they would like to amplify and lets them to whatever they wanted anyway. That means it can hide itself under pretty complex, innocuous-seeming funding chains. Hell, it can in itself seem innocuous to anyone who doesn't know the history, because it makes no demands of them that would seem dodgy.

The whole concept just really reminds me of what Americans working for RT say about it, that it lets them do what they want and feels like a friendlier environment to work in than mainstream media. If you're convinced that what you're doing is good and that you aren't forced to do anything you wouldn't do anyway, having your voice amplified by a dodgy actor seems like a mostly positive opportunity. And I more or less agree with that general sentiment on a short-term, tactical level. I don't think even long-term partnerships with it reflects *that* badly on people, they just don't show themselves to be completely incorruptible. But if you agree with the general idea that being an American funded by the NED is bad and being an American funded by RT is not bad, you need to be able to answer why that is. And any answer on the lines of "Working for imperialists makes you bad, but Russia is anti-imperialist" wouldn't match with reality.

Now, NED specifically could be an org that has never once funded anything good so there would be no conceivable reason a good person would take its money, my point is not about it specifically. It's a general point that gains more weight as we go deeper into the gray area of orgs that fund some good things as long as you support some bad things. Eventually we will reach lots of people funded by pro-imperialist NGOs that would seem ridiculous to try to paint as bad people, some semi-heroic MSF doctors and whatever else you can think of. At that point it needs to be explained why platforming them as representatives of their organizations is bad regardless of their personal accomplishments. As soon as there's someone that you can't convincingly construe as being a malicious person other than by loose association with malicious people, it has to be done.

Zhukov legitimately earned his reputation: Khalkin Gol was such a resounding victory that it effectively secured the USSR's Far East for the rest of the war, and Zhukov was at least part of the brainchild behind Saturn/Uranus at Stalingrad, Kursk, the Cherkassy-Korsun pocket, Bagration, and others.

I'm still not entirely sure on the final word behind Operation Mars as either a deliberate ploy to draw off German forces from reinforcing Army Group South during the critical months of Stalingrad, or as a straight failed op (basically trying to do Bagration two years too early), and as Rask said Seelowe Heights was a clumsy operation, but you can't win 'em all, and Zhukov certainly still has a better record than his contemporaries.

I'd still put Vo Nguyen Giap as top tier of all time.
