They make the squaddies do dumb poo poo to weed out the ones who question authority or who want to make things easier for themselves. When poo poo hits the fan they want only people who will give 110% to completing their instructions, not people who will flinch or waste time philosophising. If you want to do that in the military you should join the navy.

Yeah my nephew spent shifts moving boxes from one room to the other when he was in the army. But then also got £40,000 to be made redundant when they were actively taking on new recruits, so I think we know who's winning.

It was most likely the TV crew going 'hey lads lets see you do some unloading for the punters to have a gawk at' and just started filming them not giving enough time to organize where poo poo was to be moved to.

I noticed the same thing, both number of people walking along the river bank and cars on the road. The UK death rate is the equivalent of two big plane crashes every day but has nothing like the same presence in people's minds. I think we're going to get another Boris Bollocking as soon as he's well enough not to cough blood on the camera. Partly to remind people it's still real and the partly to deflect news coverage that's turning a bit unsympathetic. The spiking death rates now are the infections from the last few days before lockdown. It should turn a corner by the weekend but if everyone decides to go out on Sunday we'll just get another uptick in two weeks time.

Thanks to my compromised immune system, I've got to experience what it's like to be a boomer in the last 2 weeks since my interests are lumped in with there's. It's intoxicating.
