During Italy 1980 (I think) they left Brambilla's damaged Alfa slightly off line. The majority of the car was still on the circuit for the remainder of the race.

Space Racist posted:Speaking of ‘80s racing, to this day my favorite thing to do in Super Monaco GP is run into the flag guy at the end of a race. If you pay very close attention you can see flag men sprites where the retired cars sometimes are. The game is pretty unique for an arcade racer - you can get a permanent game over if you hit the wall hard enough. Also the AI does actually make mistakes which is nice as it gives you a bit of leeway (the lapped cars that appear on the final lap are real pains in the rear end to deal with). It also was probably one of the first to feature a full grid of cars. A funny thing is that if you hit one of the non-McLaren/Non-Lapped cars they will occasionally fly off the circuit and remain there for the rest of the race.

It also does the old Sega arcade racer troll - it's very difficult, if not impossible, to win using the automatic transmission.

Watching old clips makes me really miss H-pattern gearboxes. I think they will be gone entirely from mass produced cars within a decade. The BMW 3 series in Canada doesn't even offer one anymore.

Guys, I ate like half a pound of lactose free dutch cheese earlier today and I feel like I'm going to drop half of my intestines out of my rear end. What the gently caress gives? I don't even have a lactose problem.

Remember trying to stay up to watch this one but falling asleep and didn't believe my dad when he told me the result and number of finishers. Watching F1 sucked in Australia back then, there wasn't the internet to spoil it at least but you'd have to wait until after whatever lovely movie they'd show at 8.30 finished. Lucky if the race start was on before 11. Actually that is just like it is now that they've moved most of the euro races start times back an hour, only I'm not 13 (only my IQ is after watching 25 years of F1).

Channel 9 used to always show 3 hour movie on a Sunday night when there was an F1 race on. Non race weekends it was a normal 2 hour length movie or just tv shows. So yeah, race was finished before our coverage started.
