When payments start rolling in later this month I think a few people will be in for a shock.

Numbers aren't on the main UC site for some reason, but they are here. I had to work out the inflation linked portion myself, but the final monthly figure is quoted.

Since we're talking about the derisory amount paid on UC, and there's been some chat about whether or not to stay in the Starmer Labour party: I can make 3 meals for what Labour charge someone with only UC as their income to be a member. Those 3 meals will do more to keep me alive than a Labour party with a PLP approved leader ever will.

I voted Kier.

I think it's time we put idealism to bed and actually set our sights on the public. My greatest hopes for this party is to now bait and switch the same way the Tories always do. To front ourselves as centrist and sensible as much as possible in order to roll that Trojan horse through an election.

It's possible that I'm the one being deceived and the horse is full of blairites but I'd take that over years of continuing the trash fire that has been honest attempts at socialism.

I was all for Corbs and Grand daddy McDonnell (tbh more for McDonnell) but I really don’t get why people are so disappointed and talking about cancelling their membership.

Keir isn’t Jess Phillips and he’s not a wrecker, and he’s a working class lad. When you’re dealing with such a genuinely worm brained electorate, politics from the inside and use the chrome plated mumsnet sex bot to win. Is that in itself disappointing? Yes. But it’s where we are.
