I don't feel comfortable cheerleading the collapse of the economy just for the sake of supposedly ending capitalism. "okay alternative ideas can finally gain some impetus assuming we're about to start seeing some mass evictions and mass unemployment with no government action in response" is not any idea of hope. It strikes me that the line of thinking that things are so fundamentally hosed that we need to turn over the whole system is struggling with its PR campaign. Worse yet, the only thing I've heard about that is excuses along the lines of some global press conspiracy to maintain the world order which is why no one likes us. This is the politics of hope? It's finding it so hard to win people over that it's finding itself wanting our society to collapse every time it threatens to just to gain any traction at all. Yeah, hope.

Politics of hope was a dumb slogan by losers. I'm for politics of socialism by whatever means necessary. The required change doesn't happen when things are good because consumerism is the opiate of the masses. It pacifies us, we ignore the inequalities, we grow more selfish and slavish. The best argument against tanks isn't that it's wrong, it's that it doesn't work. If it worked I would be suggesting tanks because it is literally impossible to kill or immiserate more people than capitalism has and will continue to do. Further, if you don't agree that the system is utterly hosed, what's your alternative suggestion? Because if it's fiddling with the knobs on the machine I've got some unfortunate historical news about the hopefulness of that endeavour.

I washed all the walls down and a lot of the time can't smell anything, but now and then it suddenly reeks of it. (I am very sensitive to the smell of cigarette smoke and can smell someone lighting up 100m or more away). (Oh and thanks to whoever recommended the Febreze anti-tobacco spray several moons ago - I finally managed to find some when I was visiting a city, not something that I can find in any of our town shops.) I think it's to do with the outside temperature / humidity. I keep meaning to make a note of when it happens but haven't got round to it yet. Cigarette smoke just clings and hangs around forever. Covid-19 chat: Got my billet doux from Boris through the letterbox this morning. Haven't read it yet. I've decided to refrain from commenting on his covid=19 status. The one thing I am noticing though is there is definitely a time delay of about 12 days between first symptoms - and the belief that someone only has it mildly - and hospitalization (if needed). That was exactly the same for Michael Rosen and other people I am noticing. I didn't take my Government Mandated Walk yesterday and I suffered for it overnight. I have various leg/back muscle problems that need exercise and my physio is closed for the duration. If we have to stay indoors, my tiny flat (26sqm) has a maximum single run of 5m so I would have to do that 1000x in a day to make the 5km daily walk! I will be very dizzy.

Is there a working example somewhere of the end result you're after? I was under the impression that this project was no more radical than your average Scandinavian nation, and yet when I'm hearing "I'd go to war if it'd work." And "there's no other way to arrive at what I want than an utter disaster" I'm thinking that makes no sense. I never thought disaster socialism would be a thing and yet here we are.

E like I remember around 2010 or so they were running all these stories about goldman sachs execs taking over all the central banks and treasuries after the GFC. Then when Mark Carney showed up they praised him and I remember googling him myself to find out he was a Sachsman
