It's a weird kind of thought process that leads to so many people being shocked when the villains of their story act like it. The Democratic establishment were poo poo to Sanders, and they're going to be poo poo to anybody else who tries to change things too. They're not going to abandon a playbook that works because it's mean. Bernie being ratfucked in various ways isn't an outlier or an excuse like how people around here tend to frame it, because it's how this is going to go EVERY loving TIME in the future, too. The enemy will be lovely, underhanded, devious, pick an adjective, every goddamn time. Either you need a way to overcome that, or you need to stop playing their game and do something else entirely. Sticking to the same failing strategy is, after all, part of why centrists eat poo poo so often vs. the GOP. I don't know if the Democratic Party can be co-opted by anything approaching the left. But if it can, it will be by using a different approach than Sanders did in 2016 and 2020, because that one keeps on failing.

Is that even a question? Conservatives are clear in their intent and their action, I know what they want and how they're going to try and get it, and they don't smile at me while denying my rights. American Liberals are infinitely more difficult to overcome since they have this presumption they're the defacto good guys and deserve some sort of respect for not being the obvious absolute monsters that conservatives are. Conservatives may have a worse ideology that hurts more people on the whole, but they're not the barrier to progress and a healthy left wing in the US.

The frustrating thing this is the comments. If you don't know, NYT comment sections are like the Third Way version of Brietbart. Fanatical neoliberalism. They tore Bernie's rear end UP in the past. And that despite Sanders' best intentions and moral convictions, he is more inclined to create divisions within his own party instead of building the necessary alliances to accomplish his goals. Myself I always admired his conviction and ideologies, but I knew Sanders would disappoint as a leader.
