They announced the final update to Terraria is going to launch on May 16. I also learned that Terraria has sold 30,000,000 copies, holy moly.

It's kind of bittersweet to hear that this is confirmed as the final update. There have been so many great surprises coming to Terraria over the years. Still the best ten dollars I ever spent.

I assume that some people just had a cool idea for an XCOM spinoff as a chance to try new themes/gameplay mechanics. It’ll probably be pretty short and not as varied as mainline XCOM, and for $10 that seems fine.

So, an XCom version of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon?

I'm a Fallout 76 apologist. It's not the greatest game ever but it did not deserve the flak that it got. The gameplay loop is more or less the same as Fallout 4 so I think if you liked that, you would like 76. One thing that I can say objectively about it though, is that it is GORGEOUS. Something about Fallout 4's lighting looks like total poo poo, but they fixed whatever that problem was for 76 because the lighting is so so much better

I've been curious about Fallout 76 for a while but Bethesda has stubbornly refused to offer any decent sales in the US and I don't care nearly enough to set up a VPN so I can get the $13 EMEA/AUS/NZ key.

Seems weird for it to launch at $40 on Steam after all this time.

Same here honestly. For me, 76 was a distillation of the parts of four I enjoyed, but with all the terrible plot and npc interactions sloughed off into the garbage where they belong. It was buggy and I understand that it wasn't what everyone was looking for with a fallout game, but I really enjoyed it.

Receiver 2 is more of the same, but with more polish and a bit of a smoother learning curve. Well, there's some extra stuff in it so far that I'm not going to spoil, but it's pretty cool.

I absolutely love the gameplay loop of Fallout 4 and still play it to this day, 76 is basically that, but with no mods, worse graphics and technical issues plagueing absolutely every step of the journey.

I remember spending like 15 bucks on a four pack of Terraria years ago and even though I haven't played it in years its still some of the best value I've gotten out of a game. I'll definitely reinstall it when that update drops and see all that has changed.

It's something about the oversaturation, the scratchy-looking foliage, the godrays and the mix of low quality and high quality textures that makes me just think of Stalker mods back in the day or something.

Also you can kinda see what I was talking about in those Fallout 4 screenshots. Something about the lighting looks weird and flat

I don't think they look all that good by the current standards for high-end game graphics. Stuff like that clutter on that pic with the guitar guys, it's visibly flat and just painted on the ground, not modelled. It's little things like that.

It's not an ugly game, but it doesn't look great or all that different from Fallout 4 either.

been playing Receiver 2 and im really enjoying it so far, might do an effort post about it later but its a huge jump in quality from the first one. However, there is one aspect of the game i think needs to be mentioned for other people:

:siren:AVOID THIS GAME IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY DEALING WITH SUICIDE IDEATION!!!:siren:

The game does have a tiny warning at the start about this, but im serious, this game might set someone over the edge if they didnt know about this. Big gameplay/story spoilers follow:

The game is an fps rougelike and the objective for each run is to collect X amount of tapes. The tapes usually give backstory about the current situation and what Receivers are, but there are also basically suicide tapes sprinkled in as well. The content of these tapes is usually some character lamenting about being depressed and then saying that they are going to kill themselves or something to that affect. Once you start to listen to the tape, your character will then take their gun and start to turn it on themselves. If you dont unload your weapon in time, you will kill yourself. Ive never seen a game do this and it was extremely unnerving and intense. A big theme in the game is firearm safety, oddly enough, and I think they did this to drive home how unsafe firearms can be, especially if you are suffering from depression.

Still really like the game, but i think this is something that will upset some people. Really dont want this part to sneak up on people that could be seriously affected by it.

It certainly sounds like it's way past the point of what should be in a game like that. It's supposed to a gun simulator, not some kind of weird psychological stealth horror/melodrama.
