Dragon Quest XI is turn based, not ATB but otherwise sounds like what you want

I’d love to play an RPG with the classic ATB style system of the older Final Fantasy games; taking it turns with the enemies, picking a command from a menu for attack and magic, etc. It's not ATB (does anything still do that?), but I'd recommend Octopath Traveler. It's a jrpg with a few neat things it does and it's also absolutely jawdroppingly gorgeous to look at.

I’d be interested to hear everyone chime in on multiplayer ARPGs out there. It seems like there is a lot of love for Diablo 3, Path of Exile and Grim Dawn. Seemingly those are the big three to really look at despite their age. Anyone got some thoughts on how to choose between them?

Torchlight 2 can be played multiplayer, probably good if you want something less complex and a little more lighthearted, but it's a lot of fun.

D3 if you want something you can pick up every few months for a week or so to do a seasonal ladder, PoE if you want something that's actively supported where you can put in thousands of hours.

Some of us have put thousands of hours in to D3 because we didn't want to put thousands of hours into Path of Excel. A lot of people love Path of Exile but it's way less forgiving than D3. It's free though and outside of you immediately wanting to pay for extra storage, the other stuff is optional at least until you get into higher stuff. I prefer D3 because it is less forgiving. I can try all kinds of builds to see how they work and of course it's a loot box. Grim Dawn is good, it didn't last as long for me as I'd like but I enjoyed it. Torchlight is old and the graphics haven't really been updated for this century (my opinion of course). The pet is cute, but other than that I don't see the attraction, especially since PoE is there and while its graphics are nothing to write home about either, they are better than Torchlight. Wolcen was the hotness about a month or two ago but it has had its issues as hard play has exposed it. The Warhammer ARPG Warhammer Inquisitor wasn't bad, and has way more story than the others. I played it but not to the point where I could discern balance issues, so balance issues may be there.

The only ATB-type game I've played was Medabots for the GBA, which I loved. I have no idea how you'd go about playing it now other than emulation, I've heard that it had a wii-u virtual console port.

Path of Exile is the kind of game that sucks for the first 20 hours but then is super fun for the next 1000. It basically releases a brand new game mode every 3 months and changes up skill balance so builds seem fresh. Warning though - the main reason it’s fun for 1000+ hours is because it’s obtuse and deep as gently caress. You will forever feel like you barely have any idea what’s going on. There are tools to help but that’s why it’s called Path of Excel.

Switch and PS4 are the platforms I have access to. Thanks in advance. So my brother's gonna have to be in self-isolation for a while and would like to play some stuff with me online to pass the time (and he's sick of World of Tanks and World of Warships). Looking for strategy/FPS/mayyyyybe RPG that offers some sort of co-op play or 2-3 player squads (such as WoT platoons), preferably F2P so we can decide whether to invest more time/money if we like it.

Looking for a game that is semi casual kind of survival hording game. I have played extensively 7 days to Die, Rust, Don't Starve, Raft. I didn't really like Ark that much. I even played the Forest, pretty much all the way through. Wondering if someone has something I might not of heard of that is decent.

Call of Duty Warzone. FPS with light strategy and RPG elements, F2P, with 3-player squads. By far my favourite Battle Royale game.

I want some 2-player coop multiplayer. I've already played most of the obvious names I think, like Portal 2, Orcs Must Die, Left 4 Dead, Saint's Row 3/4. Something where me and my friend can gently caress around and do things.

In the past I’ve used things like Slay the Spire and Dicey Dungeons and Demoncrawl, but I’m starting to crave something new. Genre isn’t important, turn based is best but so long as I can pause without worrying about losing my flow it’s fine.

ninjewtsu posted:anyone know any couch multiplayer games that are fun while drunk? I assume Broforce works just fine from a couch, it's a really fun side scrolling shooter. Very chaotic, destroyable environments, explosions everywhere, that kind of thing. There are levels that get hard enough that a drunk person could have trouble but most of the time it's just having fun making cartoon bad guys blow up by shooting the red barrels next to them.
