I don't know anything about US labour laws, so forgive me if these are stupid questions:

Do all of the sacked people stop getting paid immediately? Do they not get at least 2 weeks pay as severance? Or, if they were sacked in the middle of their contract, (I am thinking people like Lance Storm who only got hired a few months ago), do they not get the rest of their contract paid out?

How does this affect these people's health insurance? Especially at a time when they need it the most. How does it affect the non US citizens', (again Lance Storm, but also Rusev and Drake Maverick), visa and work permits?

Do the fired wrestlers still get a cut of merch sales? I.E. if one wanted to help, would buying a butttone of Rusev Day T-Shirts give Miroslav Barnyashev some extra cash, or would WWE take it all/the lions share?

And this question is particularly stupid, but I'll ask it anyway. Given that the writer who was fired said she is proud of her work on the Otis/Mandy/Dolph storyline, does she get residuals if they keep that storyline going forward? (Non pandemic firing question: Do the writers get residuals when they show clips from storylines they have written on "best of" style DVD releases? I know Lance Storm says he used to keep getting WWE checks because he is in a segment on one of the Best of Raw videos.)

no, no and no

they never had it through the company, they lose them

one of the many super carny things about the WWE is that the wrestlers are """independent contractors""" meaning the company can get away with not treating them as employees. this probably would never hold up in court, but part of the fun thing about the american legal system is that corporations have enough money to freeze out and bankrupt the sort of people who would sue the corporations for unfair/illegal treatment

with that in mind it's reportedly (and was highly likely anyway) that the fired wrestlers aren't getting anything from the company now that they've been let go, including insurance

What is the point of signing a contract with a downside guarantee if you can’t leave, but your employer can fire you for any reason and not pay out the remainder of your contract?

I understand a mutual agreement to release someone where they can work elsewhere. But it doesn’t seem to make sense if these are truly cost cutting measures.

Unless they’ve exceeded their downside already and they just have no plans to use them?

unless they have a no compete attached, they stop getting paid immediately.

wwe does not offer an insurance plan to its talent. employees lose out once they're fired, but if they're on furlough they'll maintain insurance. that's my current situation as a palms casino manager.

you have jesse ventura to thank for this, yes, they still get royalties off their merchandise sold on the wwe shop website, but they'll get an even bigger/better cut if you just buy from their website/pro wrestling tees store. don't give WWE money.

material that writers come up with for wwe is seen as property of wwe since they write by committee and they are not entitled to anything that translates onto on screen product. wrestlers and performers will get royalties if they are featured on dvds because thats the law.

i mean the honest answer is 'wwe had a monopoly on wrestling for decades and arguably still does even if aew is giving them actual competition these days' which leads to 'people who wanted to be successful professional wrestlers had one place to go in the US for it and considered it their dream job above all else'

this is why people signed these lovely contracts and why they're still managing to get more people in recent years. at some point, it's going to stop + there might finally be some challenge to the garbage that WWE pulls

WWE doesn't need to do this to be viable. This is nothing but increasing shareholder value to win brownie points. So if you look at that way, absolutely no one except for maybe 50 people are safe (including backstage personnel and on screen talent).

I know Sarah Logan is kinda booty but I'm surprised they let any women go besides Maria. They can't even do a women's royal rumble without 10 nostalgia acts returning or being like "Coming out at #24 its.... Betty Sue from Antarctica! She's been in WWE developmental since... this morning"

I notice Tamina isn't on the official list, was her being released a fake rumor? I feel bad for any performer, male or especially female, who got released before frickin Tamina.
