DQXI. I just got the boat and found the casino nearby. Should I start gambling for stuff now or wait a bit? I have 10k roughly. How much do I need to win to get whatever I need?

most dq games have enemies with a wide range of resistances and weaknesses to various damage types and status ailments. this information is never accessible in-game.

Go for the recipe books but ignore everything else. You'll get the new weapons in chests in a few hours, and the bonus XP and GP from the vests cap at ~10 per fight.

I'm at exactly the same point and am basically too stubborn to move on without grabbing everything off their reward list before I go :colbert:

I wish I'd known you couldn't trade tokens back for gold before this though.

Cool. I worked up to 10k tokens, bought the book and left. Should be a good start for whenever I go back. Seeing that not every machine was open I am guess there is more to go.

If you think calling me names is gonna get a rise out me, think again. I like my life as an idiot!
So I picked up DQ11 on PS4 when it was on sale last year, played through the first hours and only go to where you use the keystone to step through the dimension door, just before Hotto. It was fine, though I found myself not super hooked by it. Life stuff got in the way so I ended up never getting back to it. Finally, I picked it up again and have just been playing just a little bit here or there. I just got to Gondolia.

How much should I be grinding for experience/money? All of my characters are level 13 (except Sylvando who joined at 15) and I feel like I'm always completely broke.

Also, how many skill points do we eventually get? Will I have enough to complete the tree? These skills are loving expensive, costing like 10-15 points when I only get like 3 per level. It doesn't feel great when I only am able to unlock one skill every 3-5 levels.

Luckily, the game is finally starting to land more for me. I'm not addicted to it yet, but I am finding it enjoyable to play a little here and there. I definitely haven't ever felt like "Oh gently caress, I have to keep going."

You don't really need to grind. I recommend just exploring every area looking for treasure and doing a few fights along the way, maybe trying to fill out the monsterpedia for the area.

Exploration is rewarded in this game so just through doing some fights while treasure hunting you should be consistently leveled appropriately.

Erik should steal everything all the time from everything and you can sell off stuff you don't want or can't use.

You don't need to grind at all really, just fight whatever's in the way and that will be more than enough. You don't need to upgrade all your gear each time you reach a new town.

Also the forge is your friend. Always be forging. Not just making new equipment but upgrading your existing equipment too can really make a difference if you're having trouble so unless you enjoy grinding that should be your first option if a fight seems too difficult.

You'll need a fair amount of skill seeds to get enough points to max out the skill trees but that's nothing to worry about until really late into the game. In the meantime respeccing is dirt cheap so there's no reason to not be constantly trying new builds out.

Bongo Bill

Don't grind. Rather, if you encounter a difficulty spike and die, let the EXP you keep upon revival be your grinding. Keep your money in the bank.

Thanks for the tips. I'm hoping I eventually start feeling more hooked by the game. Right now, I'm definitely enjoying it (my favorite thing in the game is the fun size forge), but the game currently is just at the point where I'm like "yeah... it's fine."

Also, I got a quest in Galopolis that said "defeat this one monster using pep powers" and that quest seems pretty loving impossible right now

I just got to Gondolia, so I suspect I'm not that far into the game. I think I have like 12-14 hours clocked in.

Characters who pep up will stay pepped up if they're not in your active party. So you can cheese those by pepping them, swapping them out, then swapping them in right before you do the fight.

I know there are supposed to be targets out in the world but I have never seen one. Are they really small and hidden or something?

Is there going to be a jump spell or something at some point? I've seen spots that I know I should be able to reach at some point but I can't. Like on a second floor of a windmill, for instance.

Nah they never made it to the Switch version. I wanna say that some of the Tickington rewards are some of what used to be rewards for the target quests? Pretty huge improvement there, nobody liked the target quests.

It was something that encouraged you to explore every nook and cranny of every area and I think the reward for finding them all was pretty good but I don't remember exactly what it was.

That one is possible now, but it's easier once you've got more party members so you have more room to juggle them until all the necessary characters have pep.

True. It's a good thing that it's not for progression like Dark Souls or anything and they keep things limited to walking up and climbing up ledges or riding a monster to get past things though.

Like others have said, you don't have to grind... but if you just happen to be out in the world and you run into some metal slimes, I found that if you run around the area for a few minutes you'll have multiple encounters. If you can punk even one per battle that's about one level per fight at your level. I had some good luck in multiple locations where I'd get one every other fight for around a dozen fights.

If you check the info screen it will tell you where every tockle is as you unlock locations. They're pretty much listed in order you can unlock them, so don't worry if theres one at the end of the list you can't find. The one that got me was you can find out about the Tockle in Gondolia on your first visit, but he's behind the silver key door.
