A lot of what hurts workers around OSHA is that the boss forces the workers to do things they themselves wouldn't or don't do. Here's a photo of Bezos providing some narrow stairs for his staff (not to carry boxes up, I don't think, just to get off the floor to another area), demanding they use it a certain way, and then not even following those guidelines himself. When I was in the US and saw a few episodes of that "Undercover Boss" show where the CEO is forced to clean airplane toilets or pack products on an assembly line it could sometimes be quite enlightening when the boss realised that his rules were completely unreasonable. Looks good on paper, saving a few cents, but grindingly inhumane for the bodies doing the work. I'd like to see Bezos try and stack parcels for a day. Meanwhile, the CEO of the company I work for, just asked for us to set him up so he can join us doing some of the hard work himself. No boxes or stairs involved, though.

Yeah, I get you and I know there are crap bosses who would have their staff work unsafely because "I did it that way and I'm fine" (he says holding up a hand with only 3 remaining fingers). Take the minimum of what OSHA demands and what a boss himself would deign to do.

Relevant OSHA, was working under high tension lines the other day in a boom lift, was only working 15' up and every time bare skin touched bare metal on the lift it gave me tiny stabbing shocks. It only took all day to realize it was because of the high tension wires.

Where I go mountain biking, there are very large power line towers going right over the parking area. When it's humid I can feel the voltage whenever I touch the metal on my bike or my cars paint. It's very unsettling to feel.
