Yeah it's really cool the level of design in each of the weapons. My only gripe is that when you add more materia slots to them, those new additions aren't added to the models.

I like that the weapon upgrade and skill learning system means you can keep rocking the buster sword right the way through the game.

I wish it was feasible for that to be patched in later.

I finally got around to hitting the timeskip in Fire Emblem: Three Houses (I think it's pretty well known that happens, so not going to spoiler tag it), and I really like that all the students actually grow up in a really realistic way for their ages before and after. Very few of them change all that much in terms of story or appearance, but they almost all look distinctly better in that way where you can tell they all found their distinct fashions and what works for them.

A bunch of character portraits also change angles and give them much more expression, which does a hell of a lot. It's like seeing someone's school photo, and then their social media profile picture a few years after graduation.

I'm playing Hyrule Warriors and I like that it seems that enemies have a 100% drop rate on their upgrade items. Every Lizalfos gives a Lizalfos scale. It means going back to earlier levels to grind for said items is less of a hassle. Also that Adventure mode carries over with Story mode is good because you can use it to catch up characters who are a bit behind. In Legend Mode I've got to the part where the narrative branches and you get to pick a level. Also it helps that every escort character has a really big health bar, so you don't really need to worry about them too much, at least on normal.

kind of into it, really

In X4 the larger ships have multiple stations on the bridge that some of the ship's crew can station. If there is someone there and you're being chauffered around by an NPC pilot that pilot will announce course changes to them with a new order and the other NPCs will respond to that.

Wow, the boss fight of Ocarina of Time's Lake Hylia in Hyrule Warriors was a tough one, but a fun one. She had a lot of interesting attacks that were fitting for the character. Gonna do the Twilight Princess level branch next.

Hurrrl Warriors was pretty fun back on the Wii U, I kinda wish I had a Switch again now during the whole Covid thing to just mindlessly bash my way across the battlefield again.

Still kinda dissapointed that they haven't rolled out a HW2, especially since they've got an entire new game worth of characters they could roll in. Seeing the 4 champions wrecking poo poo up would be pretty nice.

Honestly, if they make another Warriors game with a Nintendo property, I want them to do the one Koei-Tecmo apparently dreams of.

Please, give us Super Mario Warriors.

FF7 Remake has, like most FF games, enemies that can Stop you. What’s especially neat is that any particle effects being made by that character, like blasts, powerup bursts, magic charges, etc, will also get frozen.

The game uses tons of particles at all times thanks to being a UE4 game, so having some of them just freeze in place is a really striking effect.

Goose's rebellion

Mount and Blade Bannerlord has tournaments in big cities and depending on the 'culture' of the city the format will be different. Like for the mongol/steppe inspired culture the tournaments are usually on horseback and you may have to do some horse archery (even if you're archery skill is 0 and your character has never picked up a bow in his life). The briton/celtic inspired culture hold their tournaments with longbows and two-hander axes and swords. Meanwhile the roman culture hold honorable sword and shield duels. It's a neat way to make each tournament different and fun.

This is especially great because the Hell House is one of the weirder regular enemies from the original games. The dev team knew it was a fan favourite so they promoted to a spectacularly weird boss fight.

Finally got through the cool but aggravatingly-uncheckpointed DLC setpiece in Control after a week, and I'm back to loving it. New favorite little thing, there's a new mod that gives you a health boost when you hit enemies by launching stuff at them (aka my standby combat move). Not sure I could've beat that sequence without finding it, and it goes a huge way towards fixing the lack of health regeneration that I've struggled with, while tying it into combat. Really nice.

No Man's Sky recently patched in "living ships", which are exactly what they sound like: ships made of biological components instead of mechanical parts and which the lore says have their own minds. They have their own tech tree, too, made of different specialized organs that function identically to the normal hyperdrive, laser cannon, etc. The cockpit interior is all gross and gooey and instead of a joystick you grab a sort of fleshy protrusion and wiggle it around to control them.

Anyway, the clever bit is in the text you get when you mouse over one of the installed organs. In the mechanical ships, you get basic instructions like "press X to activate hyperdrive". But in the living ships, going back to the "mind of their own" thing, you get instructions along the lines of "press X to request that the ship please consider activating the hyperdrive".

It doesn't have two named male characters talking to each other about anything other than a woman. AFAIR the base game would be close, if not for some audio logs.

Failing the inverse Bechdel Test sounds like a passing grade, though? The Bechdel Test is supposed to be a thought experiment to consider massive inequality overall, not that each thing needs equal representation every time. One game where dudes can't help discuss the main character who is a woman seems like it's fine, working against the imbalance.
