I'm sure the job creators that don't need it will just use the money to create more jobs.

Ah i see. I should have been paying myself a salary from my paycheque of my day job. oh well!

Really, it seems the only way to escape economic downturns are to structure your finances like the rich. Invest in housing, itll always get bailed out. Create pass-throughs and LLCs and enjoy the tax cuts and small-business stimulus packages.

Meanwhile, our salaries increase slower than inflation, housing explodes in value as the rich use it as investment commodities.

People in your case I would just apply for CERB and gently caress the requirements. I don't know what they expect unemployed people to do except die. I live in Windsor and they have literally shut down the bus services and Ontario Works (aka welfare). you can't even apply for welfare if you do not qualify for CERB. you can't even get a grocery store job and put your life in danger because the buses are cancelled

A flourishing town where everyone has the money to buy frivolous but enjoyable things? Sounds like Communism to me son. REAL hard working capitalists like me know the only way to live is paycheque to paycheque while your company puts the onus on you to get your wages subsidized for them by government welfare programs, and also take massive bailout payments and tax cuts effectively letting the already disgustingly rich siphon the tax money that should be going to infrastructure and healthcare :smuggo: Lib status: owned

Theres an emergency online application for OW now, and those offices are just closed to the public. So you can still apply, get funding, talk to a caseworker and so on. Just not go in for stupid meetings in person.

Cross-posting from covid thread cause my day was bad. gently caress Grocery Stores

Horrible day at the grocery store. We had a bunch of rules on customer conduct to make things safe, but a few customers complained about the restrictions. So head office repealed these restrictions, its just a free for all now. Total chaos, no one knows what to do, morale plummeted. Even the store's second is openly talking about how the company is putting profits ahead of our safety. Someone brought up a walkout, but generally people need to work to survive.

Had a boy and girl come in today that couldn't be more than 6 and 10, telling us they were 10 and 14 (I work with kids a lot normally, they were not as old as they said), said they had to go for groceries alone, in PJs, because their whole family was sick and no one else could go. I dealt with them, and got management involved, as it sounded horrific. I was assured something would be done, but I later saw them walk out with bags of junk food. Another employee told me they helped them shop and pay, and then we just let them walk out of the store and walk home alone. Can't believe that was allowed to happen. The whole situation sounded hosed.

Just kinda haunting me right now.

That really sucks.

What order did Windsor, Hamilton and Oshawa collapse in?

They all have beautiful turn-of-the-century brick buildings but so does every decrepit town in Ontario. It makes it hard to date the decline.

They're all just regular rust belt cities. There's more information about american cities like Pittsburgh and Detroit but the issues are basically the same in the ontario rust belt.

Oshawa is ugly as gently caress though. I can't speak to windsor cause I don't know it. There's maybe like one nice street in downtown Oshawa. The downtown is awful. They demolished most of their nice turn of the century buildings for absolute dumps of midrise office buildings.

I'd say Oshawa just finished collapsing since they still had the plant running until recently. Windsor's been dead for a while, Hamilton even longer. Of course since Hamilton became a cheap place to live it was perfect for artists and other affluent-but-poor young people to roll in and take grab all the rental properties. Oshawa still has had a pretty sizable homeless camp in nearby forests last I heard.

Sarnia's a success story in the sense that petro-chemical manufacturing hasn't gone the way of auto manufacturing yet. Growing up there the city stagnated and hollowed out from the early 90s (the plant my dad worked at was literally demolished which is unusual for Chemical Valley) until recently but they're getting some big investments by the provincial government and industry to open up a new Nova plant or something similar.

edit: holy poo poo Sid Meier was born in sarnia I guess we aren't all horrible mutant monstrosities

to be fair that's all of durham region.

I could dedicate a whole thread to the hilarious incompetence of the people running the region and especially the people who run the city of pickering, a town right beside a major national park but all they can think about in terms of development and generating jobs/money is a) a casino that opened right before covid-19 hit (there's already one in ajax) and b) building an airport a recent federal report said wouldn't be needed in the next 16-32 years

I dont know how you can top Vaughn, a city without sidewalks.

At least Newmarket pretends it doesnt just exist so that people commute down to Toronto during the week, and Torontonians come up to go to Dave and Busters, the mall and big box stores on the weekend.

Downtown Vaughn is Toronto.

Will I seem like a kook or insensitive if I use my RPAL to go out and get the AR and handguns Ive been fence sitting on before the inevitable bans?
