As does Hashihime of the Old Book Town, but I don't know if I'd include visual novels in the list? I mean yeah they do go in here and they play with time loops in fascinating ways and other weird things, but games that are less novels and more... games don't have enough time fuckery.

Not in the US so Game Pass isn't an option for me, I don't mind paying a bit for a month or two of Forza. It looks so good and fun but I seriously can afford like Animal Crossing and a cheap Steam game for what they're charging for the game

hi thread. I need something like Simcity 4 but also like Cities Skylines. The former one is the prettiest to look at. The latter has the traffic complexity I like. Factorio and those infrastructure building games seem a bit too far on the complex end, but something about Cities Skylines just feels so shallow. Doesnt have to be a city builder per se, but it needs to scratch that itch. I bounced off the Anno series pretty hard too. :sigh:

Sometimes it's not the bomb that's retarded.

You tell the final boss to kill himself in the opening cutscene, he does, and you get the credits roll.

Since we are talking about that kind of thing, Nvidia's sharpening filter also messes up some games when you try to apply it globally. I've had to disable it for theHunter COTW, Rising Storm 2 and Tabletop Simulator.

I ran around with big crowds of survivors fairly often and they didn't seem any harder to herd than they did in DR2, but I did notice they're more generally fragile. DR2 survivors were almost a bit too strong at times, though, so I think it's an acceptable middle ground.

A-Train PC Classic. It's about developing cities by controlling transport networks so it's like a mix of Sim City and Transport Tycoon, leaning more towards the former. The problem is that it's a port of a 3DS game so it looks ancient and it also has a ridiculous price tag outside sales. Solid game though.

Railway Empire leans further into the Transport aspect of things but there's also some city development as you connect cities. It's also not too hard to pick up but works on a much bigger scale so maybe not your thing.

Finally, Transport Fever 2 has city development too but is 100% transport grognard stuff for people that really like vehicles and whatnot. If you know what a MAN SL 202 is and the idea of one of those being in the game excites you then go nuts.

I guess I could try again now that I’m on a new machine.

Why would a reinstall help?

It has most likely written garbage to its config or something similar, so I'd look up where it saves its configuration ( https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/XCOM_2 ) and rename the config folder to see if it starts again.

Survivors kinda went from being absolutely braindead and a nightmare to escort in the original Dead Rising to being too competent and good that a group of them properly armed would take on any of the game's bosses without any interaction from the player in Dead Rising 2.

They understandably nerfed survivors for Off the Record and there's a book you can find ingame which when held in your inventory gives you a passive buff that makes survivors more like how they were in Dead Rising 2.

Goddamn Nioh sucks. I finished the first island or whatever and it's not terribly hard but I uninstalled. It's just extremely clunky/feels terrible to control, the equipment/blacksmith system makes zero loving sense, and the level design is confusing garbage with monster closets every 5 steps.

Also it runs like poo poo. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Now, time to finally get back to some actual good games I need to finish, like Mars: War Logs.

Weird, it runs fine on my PS4. Bad port, perhaps.

I quite liked the combat in Nioh, but the equipment system showering you with worthless poo poo on every kill needed to die.

Nioh is basically a Diablo-style ARPG with Soulslike combat, yeah. The constant, generic loot drops are something you'll either like or really, really hate.

I really didn't like Nioh at all and never finished it, but I never had any problems per se with the controls (some spinning plate design like ki recovery I didn't care for). But yeah it's kind of an real ugly rear end game with generic xbox 360 blue-brown filters/aesthetic, really bad and ugly level design, repeating same encounters with very limited variety but now theres 2 chain guys!!, ton of worthless loot and inventory management sucked and never got good.

still, i'd be interested in Nioh2 if they improved on most of what I hated about it

Sorry to say that they kind of didn't - the Ki recovery thing seems to have become only more important, the loot is still randomly generated and mostly boring, and the levels are still very "brown-green landscape with rocks, ramshackle village, brown-green landscape with different rocks."

It also now has a Pokemon mechanic where you can collect the souls of enemies and get special attacks from it, but all the drops are randomized. The special missions are still remixes and the difficulty tends to be all over the place, because you can go into them at any point, but they don't adjust for how strong you actually are.

Going by what you didn't like about Nioh 1, I don't think you'd enjoy the sequel very much.

I actually don't think Nioh is that bad. Yeah the loot system is awful but it's easy to just grab whatever good items you get and roll with them. The combat system is really good and enjoyable for me, and while I'm sure the game feels grindy if you do all the repetitive optional missions I'm skipping them and focusing on the main missions and it's been fun. There's definitely better Soulslike games though.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't be playing Nioh if I hadn't already finished Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Dark Souls 1-3. It's in that knockoff area that The Surge inhabits for me.

I do kinda dig the, "Here's a 1500s historical figure that we've turned into a goth made of magic bats" thing the early story has going on.

I really enjoyed Nioh and I'm looking forward to when Nioh 2 comes to PC, but I can understand why a lot of people were annoyed with it. It contains some dubious design decisions that make it a bit less than the sum of its parts; things like, for example, there effectively being only seven "real" melee weapons, because everything else about them was mostly just cosmetic skins over the same (and universally identical, as far as I know) moveset, reach, and advantages between them. The only real difference between any two katanas is at which point of the game you get them and therefore how high the magic bonuses attached to them can go.

I think that's a fairly valid criticism and it makes the experience a bit bland in the long run. The Dark Souls series of games is stronger in itemization because it tends towards giving its weapons a bit more of an individual identity within a given weapon group. They feel more special to find, even if the only difference between a Iaito and an Uchigatana is their heavy attack, things like that.
