The Japanese Communists are... a strange beast though; they certainly aren't anything like as radical as most Communist Parties around the world; has always pursued its own line independent of various countries that historically sought to influence the international Communist movement and that probably helped them remain relevant after most other Communist parties either died out or rebranded to something else in the 1990s. I mean the story of the Japanese left for basically the last 65 years has been an almost total inability to win elections and govern at all so I don't think that that surprising that they've managed to retain the position that they've had for as long as they have.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Japan's done anything rotten since the 1940s.
