I know it varies wildly depending on your state. this is true, though I’ve heard that it is a lot better now that there isn’t a panic flood of people trying to get tested and the backend infrastructure is more developed and mature. it does probably add an average few day to a week lag though, you’re right. the variability also adds an additional uncertainty that acts to smooth the curve and makes the effects of policy actions less obvious.

I've been doing grocery runs for people who can't make it to the shops for what ever reason and holy poo poo is this weekend different even compared to the middle of the week. No masks, no giving a poo poo about distance. I watched one lady scream at a staff member for telling her she couldn't wait for her friend in the checkout area. Security eventually came over and half dragged her out. Every single person in town seems to be out and about now too. The weather isn't even that nice out as there is a bitterly cold Antarctic wind ripping through everything. Sydney is going to bust open like an over ripe melon if this poo poo keeps going. Sure we're not USA levels of hosed up but everyone is getting pretty blasé.

At least the lockdown has only been partly eased and it’s not like they aren’t warning us that this poo poo will get locked down again and fast if we cause cases to rise. So basically, it’s going to get locked down again soon I think.

People are behaving as though they have all been lifted instead of a few being eased. It will be interesting to see if NSW follows through and reimposes the same restrictions when everything goes to hell in a handbasket in a couple of weeks.

There was a graduation party and some boomer's birthday party on my block today. About 20 people at each event. We are so hosed, like, why do I even bother holing myself in my 20x30 right now. Also my bf is being sent back to work on the 5th. I haven't received unemployment since I applied over a month ago. Chuds are storming my capital. I want to self death.

There were definitely a ton more people out and about today in Virginia, although to be fair its the first day of decent warm weather we've had this season. At least it's mostly people outdoors walking/cycling rather than congregating in restaurants, although the local gardening stores were *packed*.
