AC Transit is a shitshow in the best of times. The very last time I got on a bus (in mid March) a lady was coughing hard all over the place while also using a comically large inhaler and asking for directions to the methadone clinic lol.

I had decided prior to that trip that I was done riding the bus after that day, but that really sold it.

yeah i've been avoiding the bus too, with a couple exceptions here and there

whenever i get home after going out (once per week, for the past month), i put my outside clothes in a quarantine pile and then take a shower and clean the door knobs/mop the floor where i came inside. The only clean area when outside, is under my mask (maybe :smugdon:) and ive been doing good so far at never touching my mask unless i wash my hands first

Legit, the NFL should just rent one of the giant casinos in LV, have all the players live there in a quarantined city block and play all the games in Las Vegas and Arizona in front of no crowds. They'd make so much loving money

we're in St. Louis county and I gotta say, things are pretty quiet here. Lots of people not wearing masks, but none of this poo poo, and I last went shopping at 1 PM on Saturday. A nice, orderly, well spaced line of people waiting to get in thanks to decreased capacity inside the store, and no one bitching about waiting the 10 minutes or whatever to get in.

nah don't worry about it, I didn't think you were defending it, I just take statements like that personal because I spent years dealing with a bloated mess of an specialty administrative office and trying to straighten them out but it was stuffed to the brim full of lazy leeches trying to justify their meaningless bullshit student-fluffing jobs so absolutely nothing got done

The NFL is absolutely playing this season, full stop, even if it's without fans/a shortened season/whatever other contingency plan they come up with. Nothing will stop that capitalist machine.

lol america is seen as a chaotic leaderless joke who abandoned their allies, and the admin still expects nations to join them in going after china, iran, cuba...

quote:

Chinese aid has also been delivered to Japan and South Korea, two U.S. allies who have sought close relationships with Trump and have received, in exchange, demands that they pay more for American bases. As close neighbors and former foes, both countries have many reasons to be wary of China. But now that Trump is a laughingstock, now that America is absent from the game, some in both Tokyo and Seoul may conclude that they should start hedging bets. China has also offered major assistance to Iran, a country that had already been given a major role as a Belt and Road hub. Iranian leaders now have extra reasons to hope they can outlast sanctions if the American president calling for them need not be treated as a serious person.

China’s relationships with the Arab world have also deepened during the pandemic. Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait sent aid to Wuhan during the earlier part of the crisis; later, China reciprocated. The foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates has described China as the role model to follow in this crisis. On March 8, Chinese medical workers arrived in Baghdad—an advance team, perhaps, poised to take advantage of the inevitable American retreat. In each one of these places, America is absent, distracted, stumbling—and laughable.

All good, man. My ex works in admissions and has a super cushy, highly-paid job that was basically recession-proof until now. I'll give him credit for actually believing in accepting first-generation students and the like, but yeah, it's overall a corrupt industry and I do not feel bad that it's being disrupted right now.

Fan demographics of the NFL lean in favor of "they don't need to play", and the players are organized enough to stop it. College football programs in the South East on the other hand, not so much.

Not laughing at all, I'm a huge sports fan and also kinda need them to come back for my livelihood since I work in sports media. I'm skeptical about the plans that have been floated so far (like MLB playing exclusively in Arizona), but maybe those ideas could work later this year when the 'rona has burned through more of the population. That's big rear end maybe, though.

I went to an SEC school, so yeah, I get it. They'll find a way to play, even if it's just a handful of games. Even athletic departments like Alabama's can't handle the loss of football financially, to say nothing of other departments that are barely breaking even as it is.

Almost zero percent chance of pro sports anytime in 2020.

This thread gets way too up its own rear end on "everyone is a dumbass CHUD germlover except me". There's no point to sports without a stadium. Baseball isn't happening, and maybe the NFL plays some exhibition games. Even that's iffy because I could see the players refusing to do it.
